#1 Boston vs. #8 Montreal - A rematch from last years epic 7 game series. This time the tides have turned, Montreal at the #1 seed while Boston was the #8 last year so its switched. These two teams are interdivision bitter rivals, they hate each other and their fans hate each other.

#2 Devils vs. #7 Rangers - Another rematch from last years first round playoffs. Another set of division rivals that are located a quick bus ride apart so both teams will have fans in the other teams house(what little fans the devils actually have at least). The Rangers actually knocked out the Devils last year so you know NJ has a bitter taste in their mouth since they arent used to being bounced in the first round.

#3 Caps vs. #6 Pens - Bettman, NBC and VS finally have their dream come true. The Crosby vs. Ovechkin battle will be a great thing for the NHL. Both of these teams hate each other, even mor than we hate the Pens and we have seen Ovy and Crysby running their mouths about each other lately so it could be an awesome matchup.

#4 Flyers vs. #5 Canes - Nashville is to Philadelphia as Philadelphia is to Carolina. They have Williams, Brind'Amour, Pitkanen, and Seidenberg so there will be some familiar faces going at it. Both teams look to be hot going into the playoffs and while they arent exactly rivals the #4 vs #5 matchup is usually the best of the 4. Its also close enough that we will see a lot of philly fans taking over Carolina during games 3, 4 and 6.
Yea this has been brought up a lot. It will be an awesome first round just cause you are guaranteed some great atlantic bouts and some high scoring players that hate/dont like each other.

They're really funny because they make no sense within the context of the game. I think he's great.

I've got a few suggestions from my Top 5 movies . . .

Star Wars-I find your lack of faith disturbing.

2001-Open the pod bay doors HAL.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles-Those aren't pillows.

Casablanca-The Germans wore gray, you wore blue.

The Exorcist-Let Jesus **** you. (I understand he'd probably never use that one, but you have to admit it's a catchy line.)

Fans would definitely get a good first round from those match-ups. There's another scenario that's possible that would be pretty darn good as well.

1 Boston vs 8 Montreal
2 New Jersey vs 7 New York R.
3 Washington vs 6 Carolina
4 Philadelphia vs 5 Pittsburgh

All divisional match-ups in round one.

Also, CGB, the magic number is now 8 (with reference to the phrase above the avy).

I for one do not want to play Carolina first round, how the hell am I going to watch those games? Last year was sweet because we played AO, who wasn't going to cover that? Then a Canadian team so i got full CBC coverage, then after that it doesn't matter who you play.

Dammit I miss JR! What a great sense of humor. Hartnell takes his place in that category.

He hasn't played in a while and he hasn't looked very good in his last few starts. Hopefully, he still has some cobwebs to sort out; this will probably be his last start of the season, though.

Yes.

Here is a blog on the topic:

PHILADELPHIA - Finally here and finally spoke to Pete DeBoer.

Craig Anderson will be in net tonight in place of Tomas Vokoun.

The rest of the lineup stays the same.

DeBo doesn't seem to be in a real fine mood, and I don't think I can blame him for that. He says the team is in good spirits nonetheless, saying that they've played good enough in the past two or three games to get some points. Yet, only one on the ledger.

Here's what DeBo had to say during the Philly pregame scrum with the South Florida media (me, Steve X., Goldie and Billy):

Why Anderson?

We have to find a way to get a win. I think I was pretty clear last night on where I thought we were at in that position. We need more. Unfortunately we're at the time where we don't have the luxury of anyone bringing something less than an A-plus game.

Hopefully, the Flyers don't come out flat.

I'm a bit concerned - Deboer has the ability to get the best out of players who aren't used to having to bring it. And it sounds like he's in one of those moods.

Look for Florida to come out flying. Here's hoping the Flyers are ready to match and outdo their intensity.
