This, for my money, is the bigger problem with the Richards line than Carcillo.

I like those lines too.

I agree totally. Dont get me wrong, Giroux has played well in the role, but he is like you say a natural winger. Richards needs to be on the top 2 lines. not on the 3rd with a underachieving winger and a guy who has what 3 goals this season?

Like this lines.

Give Ross some playoff experience. I like what I have seen, from him, off and on the ice. Also, Ross is an RFA after this season. I'd like to see us resign him for cheap.

Don't know how I feel about Giroux playing on Briere's wing... too many playmakers and that line would be a little too small for my liking... maybe switch him and knuble.

Gagne Richards Giroux
Hartnell Carter Lupul
Power Briere Knuble
Carcillo Ross Asahm

I like what I have seen from Giroux so far, but like Dig pointed out, I am not sure if hes ready to be matched up with guys like Crosby,Malkin,AO, Parise ect on the top line. I would rather have experience on the top 2. It really is alot to ask for a kid who will have less then half a season under his belt come playoff time to be matched up against some of the top players in the world in a 7 game series.

Yeah that true, we some how still get a lot of shots for how much we get blocked or missed.

I don't recall the song. Any idea how it went?
Sounded like some Irish-themed song or something maybe. It might have sounded like the band who sings the Flyers fight song.

It's starting to take on a life of it's own, even though Randy Moller doesn't want it to be like that. The ratings for the radio broadcasts are up 500%, so the shoe fits.

In fantasy land, I would have Giroux-Danny-JVR as the 3rd line,
and a 4th line of Carcillo-Powe-Asham as the 4th. Cote getting Bobby his popcorn and Diet Cokes.

I agree. JVR is the wild card. I do think we may see him with the Flyers this season.

THIS season?

Im sorry, but I disagree. There is no way we see JVR in a Flyer uni this season.

Maybe... MAYBE with the Phantoms, but i doubt that as well.

I was at the bar last night watching this game and the Nova-Duke game, so I missed this whole thread.

However, my opinion.

Carle had an awesome game. Wow.

Briere failed SOOOO hard at the end. I was VERY upset.

Biron looked good for the most part.

We didn't capitalize on our chances, and we had too many of them to lose this game. Unbelievable.

Carcillo sucked, AGAIN. Richie needs better linemates.

Flyers fight song is the Bro Hymn Tribute by Pennywise, I believe.

Damn I was writing out a long post and then accidentally navigated away, I'll try to sum it up as quick as I can.

Basically, I don't have a big problem with the lines right now. We got those lines right before the Sabres game and since then, we've had 4 strong performances and 2 of those were in huge games against divisional rivals. Part of being the captain is sacrificing personal glory for the good of the team. If Richie can turn his line with Carcillo and Lupul into a shutdown line, then I'm honestly all for keeping them together for the playoffs.

I'd much rather have Giroux at C than Briere, seeing as Giroux is better defensively and Briere is flourishing on the wing at the moment. Plus, add in the fact that Giroux is playing with 2 very good defensive players.

I'm not totally sold yet, but I say we keep giving it a chance. Like I said, we've had 4 strong performances with these lines and I think our loss last night was more due to getting a bit unlucky, Anderson playing extremely well, and Stevens making some awful decisions.

To be fair, it won't be Giroux matched up against Crosby... he'll be matched up against Kunitz. Still, if anyone on this team is going to be the "shutdown forward" it's going to be Carder. He's our top defensive center and the one with the size/speed so shut down AO and Malkin. Giroux is no slouch in D, tho.... but that's just my $.02

I agree, but bumping Carcillo down a line and moving Cote to the pressbox will work the best imo. Who replace Carcillo is the question though.

I think the Phantoms are virtually a sure thing for JVR after his tournament wraps up. The time is right for him to turn pro and start getting paid.

Carter our top shut down defense center? That is a pretty bad comment. From what I have seen of Giroux he is already better as a defensive center than Carter is. Plus Richards is better than both. I even think Powe is better defensively at center, but maybe all of these are just my opinions.

I know Carcillo is supposed to be our 3rd line guy, but being honest, Asham was not doing THAT bad on the third line. He put up something like 3 points in 2 games or something, and was doing very well. Is he a 3rd line player... meh that can be argued. I think they should just TRY Asham with Richards and Lupul. Maybe Asham can be the Hartnell/Knuble of that line. Hey you never know right? I personally like the top two lines, and even the third line if Lupul would get his ass moving and Carcillo would actually do something.

Carter is incredible defensively. Richards has better skill defensively but keep in mind that Carter has the size and speed advantage over Richards. If anyone on this team is going to hold Malkin and Ovechkin off the score sheet it's carter. It's all about the matchup, tho. If I'm putting someone on Crosby or Savard you better believe it's going to be Richards. If I'm putting someone on Ovechkin it's gonna be Carter

I've been thinking about this too, and I agree with this. However, if they want to put him in this role, they need to sit him down, tell him this, and make sure he's on the same page. He's still looking for that quick jump for the rush, which isn't always a defensively-sound move. It's going to have to be a full commitment to defense, and then on special teams he can do whatever he wants.

Well, I dunno if it needs to be all defense, he and Lupul are both talented offensive players that should definitely look to score some goals.

All I'm saying is that if he can turn that line into something that can go up against a Savard line, a Parise line, or a Crosby line and not get beaten, that would be a tremendous accomplishment, easily as important as scoring a PPG.
