It would be great to finish 6th (or higher). That way we might avoid the Devils for 2 rounds (if we advanced). Let some other team take out the Devils (NYR and Phily have had success against them). If we can't finish 6th, I'd rather play the Bruins in Round 1.

I think the only time in the last 15 years that we've ever really beaten the Devils was last season (that 4-3 overtime comeback game and then the subsequent meeting). Those were the only two times where I had truly felt like we had defeated the psychological noose they've had on us for over a decade. The noose appears fastened once again this season.

Keep this in mind - it's looking more and more like the Bruins, Devils, and Caps will finish 1-2-3, in that order. There is no way in hell (pardon the pun) that I want the Habs to face the Devils - I'll take my chances against the others two. So, it might very well be beneficial for us to finish 8th. 5th or 6th would be nice, but too much would need to happen and our last week is a killer!

this. Winem all and see where we end up at. 5th place is still very realistic.

the most desirable matchup for us would be washington I'd think. I definatly agree with anything but New Jersey, but that is also why I don't want to finish 7th or 8th as it all but guarentees us a date with them in the first two rounds. If we finish 6th, this could happen:

(1)Bos vs (8)NYR
(2)NJ vs (7)Car
(3)Was vs (6)Mtl
(4)Phi vs (5)Pit

(2)NJ vs (8)NYR
(5)Pit vs (6)Mtl

(2)NJ vs (6)Mtl

I could definatly see something like that happening.

I don't care if we pass any team as long as no team passes us we're golden.

To all the people asking for no NJ, is it because you want to see that habs last longer or because you think that we have more chances in the 2nd round against them if we even get there? I'd rather just not make the playoffs with these attitudes..

People just don't see how a series against NJ would be even a bit enjoyable to watch, on top of them owning us hardcore.

Amen to that.

Not only it would be almost impossible to win 4 games out of 7 against Brodeur (to whom playing at the Bell center would be an advantage), but sooooooo boring to watch.

Just win. It doesn't matter where we finish, and it doesn't matter who we play in the playoffs. All that matters is that we win our games: do that, and things will fall into place.

When was the last time the Habs beat the Devils 4 times in a 7 game span? early 90's? late 80's?

I'd like to see at least 1 round of PO where we actually stand a small but realistic chance...Bruins or Caps.

Boring? mmm not anymore, they still know how to play solid defense and they do trap (like a lot of teams!) but they're are far from boring to watch. But playing them will be painful since the will likely dominate us in every category...
