New York Rangers consistency ???

When are we going to see New York Rangers team that plays consistent hockey true out the season? Why can't one of the premiere organizations in the NHL become one the strongest and respectful team like Detroit Red Wings for example? The Red Wings have been the model of consistency on the ice despite seeing some major changes to the team, including the retirement of longtime captain Steve Yzerman. The beginning of the streak included the likes of Sergei Fedorov, Igor Larionov, and Dominik Hasek, who were huge parts of the team. Those players are gone, but the Wings of today haven’t missed a beat with the likes of Osgood, Henrik Zetterberg, and Marian Hossa.
Rangers always have an excuse with either poor defense or simply inability to score goals.
I think New York Rangers fans deserve to see their team on the top of the standings.
I am sorry for some mistakes.

When:

a) They get a GM who knows what he's doing
b) Better drafting- Not talking about Cherepanov, as that was a rare but very tragic coincedence beyond the Rangers control. I'm talking about guys like Hugh Jessiman, Jamie Lundmark, Manny Malholtra, Pavel Brendl, Al Montoya, and Ivan Baranka. Imagine the Rangers having a decent scouting department, we'd be amongst the NHL's best right now.
c) Smarter cap spending. Don't go after the big names for their name alone, sign/trade for guys who can help this team

Some of those were poor draft choices and others were the mismanagement of prospects.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk are elite, and when Mr. Norris trophy winner retires, you will see the downfall of Detroit.

A thread about the consistency of the Red Wings is started just a few hours before they get shut out by the Islanders.

I get your point though.
