I'd absolutely love it if the Leafs could get L.A.'s 1st rounder, especially if they didn'r have to give up their own 1st in the process. However, the Leafs will probably have to give their 1st + ? in order to move up. I guess it all depends on what L.A. is really looking for.
Are they looking for more experienced players to help out their younger players? If so, what position(s)?
What we need is a scoring threat.......
A real playmaking center or a goalscoring winger...
If the Player is good enough i wouldn't want a 1st rounder in return
If the Avs want to go into full on rebuild mode, maybe something around Ryan Smyth for the 1st. Smyth has been fantastic this year, and LA has the cap space to afford him.

The Leafs have Jeremy Williams who has scored several goals in his latest (and longest) stint with the big club. The problem with him right now is that goal-scoring is currently the only reasonably good part of his game apart from his speed. He is a young right winger who, at this point in his career, needs to have defensively-sound linemates to help cover-up his current defensive weaknesses.
If he isn't enough, perhaps the addition of an '09 2nd rounder would suffice. Or if he is unsuitable to L.A., perhaps Lee Stempniak would be a bit more to their liking.
If neither of these suggestions are suitable to L.A., then what Leaf player, or combination of Leaf players, do you think would be suitable?
Ryan Smith? Jeremy Williams? Lee Stempniak? Surely LA could do better than that. What about something around Kaberle?
Considering that what L.A. apparently is looking for is either a play-making center or a goal-scoring winger, that would preclude a trade for T. Kaberle. Now, if they were looking for an experienced PMD PPQB to help mentor their young D-core, then Kaberle would be just what the doctor ordered. And I would gladly give him up for another Top-10 draft pick and maybe one of their top young prospects.
You are on crack if you think LA is giving up their 1st for anything short of Kovalchuk + contract extension (and obviously a lot more coming from LA with it...). And since that is next to impossible, I am going to go with LA is not trading their first rounder. LA will almost certainly select a player. Ron Hextall mentioned the other day that Dean is already well on top of it and has stated again this year that "we are going to get a good player no matter what." Anything short of a superstar winger that could potentially pot 50 goals per season and you can forget LA's first rounder.

Kings have a lot of nice young players..when the F are they doing to start winning games...seems like for a few years now.ppl have been saying .."they are going to amke the playoffs!"
If we're picking 6th, draft whichever of Schenn/MSP/Duchene/Kane hasn't been taken. There's really no consensus on how they should be ranked, so drafting 6th takes the guesswork out of it.
If we're trading it, it's gotta be for a superstar, even if we have to include a prospect.

If that's what it is going to take to get L.A.'s 1st rounder, then I respectfully wish the Kings good luck in that regard as there are few players in the NHL nowadays who can regularly perform such a feat.
He looks like a triplet to me as he share one significant trait with the two Leafs--he is not anywhere near close to being worth LA's first round draft pick.

Your delusional if u think Ryan Smyth has the same value as Jeremy Williams and Lee Stempniak.

So nothing short of Ovechkin, Kovalchuck or Iginla will land the Kings 1st round pick?
Methinks you overrate that pick a bit. Tops you would get is a third liner, decent prospect and a lower first rounder. You're not going to get even a 30 goal guy for a 6-9 pick.
Think of it this way. Would you be able to get a guy nearly that good with that pick? That's a pretty resounding NO. So, you're overvaluing the pick.
