If Thiessen is staying, that bodes well for the team. Losing Ginand and Vitale will be tough, but Quailer looks like a legit player, and Tuckerman made some strides as well. I'll also be interested to see what Coach Cronin can do in terms of recruiting...he's done a great job so far.

And it's always good for HE to have lots of competitive teams. Improves the programs all around, helps with recruiting and revenue, and it allows the "EZAC" jokes to continue to flow.

God, it was truly pathetic. There were a couple thousand BU students on the one side of the ice and on the other side, the BC student "group" was like 30 kids and I'm not exaggerating at either end. I know they had the NCAA game, but still, that's pathetic.
It's not surprising at all. Even if they had a thousand fans there, they'd still get shouted down by everyone else. Every game I went to at BC (probably 10-12 games over a 7-8 year period), the NU fans were louder than the BC fans, while we made up a quarter or less of the crowd. Apparently, ugly yellow shirts mean you've lost your voice.

I've only been to a few BU away games, but I haven't noticed it too much. I don't really see him do anything, I think his main value at this point is from the recruiting standpoint.
He may not do it as much now, since back when I regularly attended games he was also very active on the coaching side. Still, he did it every single game at Matthews Arena, and drove the Dog Pound crazy. I'm still not sure how he got away with it...oh, wait, HE refs suck mostly. Forgot that part.

And I'm sure Coach Parker has enormous value in the recruiting standpoint. As much as I hate BU, I have to admit he's a legendary coach. Between him and the new arena, BU has quite a few advantages in the recruiting department.

As for votes, I'm not jinxing my Huskies like that. Just like I never pick a score for Flyers' games.

Likely the last time too, because CHA is probably going to disband and Bemidji is going to join WCHA.

Anyone watching any of the game? The goalie for Air Force looks very solid. He is very tall too. Anyone know if he's drafted. He has played in every game this year too. Seems like he could do pretty well in the NHL some day.

Wow if you hate the NHL and all the penalties, don't even bother to tune into this game. The first 22 minutes has been all special teams. No flow to the game whatsoever.

Air Force is getting out shot 18-5, but now winning 2-0

This would be huge if Air Force pulls this off.

Volkening is an undrafted 23 YO Junior. He could go pro if he wanted to, I don't know if he does though.

For me its 0 for 3 with Denver getting knocked out and Michigan and Yale. Damn, these upsets dont even happen this often in the regular March Madness, and there are more games in the basketball tourney.

It depends, here we start at 16. Air Force beating Michigan is a major upset (not to the Holy Cross standard, but pretty big), Miami over Denver not so much. Miami as a 4 seed wasn't really fair to them, but it's just where they fit in. Just like UMD as a 2 seed was a bit generous, they wouldn't have been in the tournament if they didn't win the WCHA Final Five. I had Vermont, and hopefully UMD can come back here. The Duluth defense seem to be thinking that Stalock's big saves will continue to be there.

0 for 3 for me too. I don't really care because I never really followed college hockey. It is never on enough to know who could win when. I thought Yale could pull of the win as they have been a pretty good team all year. Oh well.

MN-Duluth won...

http://nhl.fanhouse.com/2009/03/28/m...west-regional/
Quote:
MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota-Duluth has played 29 games at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, the home of their rival Minnesota Gophers. Never before have they ever experienced a night like Friday. The Bulldogs were the home team, and while the in-house crowd was well short of capacity, it was almost unanimously pro-UMD.

The Bulldogs waited a little while, but finally took advantage. Two goals in the last 40 seconds of regulation tied it, and Mike Connolly (undrafted) power-play goal in overtime won it for UMD. They beat Princeton 5-4 in overtime in front of 7,187 at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.

The head coach of Duluth played briefly with the Flyers (Scott Sandelin).

I am now extremely pissed off I turned this game off. Oh well.

At least tomorrow we will get to see JVR play, and there is another kid on UNH who is from philly who I skate with in the summer. He didn't play much last year but he has been getting a lot of playing time this year. Should be a good game tomorrow.
