Ahh, didn't realize the Flyers had clinched a spot ahead of us already.

What I'm trying to say is with 4 wins and 8 points that gives us 94 points...

For florida to eclipse that and put us out they would need to win 7 of 8 giving them 95 points....is florida really going to go 7-1...

I'm calling it locked up at this point, and if by chance we win tonight and florida loses, forget it, 7 points up with 7 games to go, if we won 2 of the last 7 they would need to win 6...

Yeah, if this happens tonight we are pretty much in. That could still mean we back in...but the way this team has been playing as of late I'd be surprised if we went worse than 3-4 in the final 7.

Precisely why nothing is "locked up."

Without the x next to the name. Were still fighting for a spot. I don't think florida will go 7-1. But this is sports (please see lst 2 years of the mets)

I'm still nervous about making the playoffs. What a brutal schedule coming up. But first things first, gotta get that tough road W at Pittsburgh...

I think i've already locked it in to my brain that they have have no chance of getting the win in Pittsburgh, so anything taken will be a nice bonus.

If you are telling me that this team cannot play .500 hockey the rest of the way to make the playoffs then it is really bad. Something is wrong here. Their odds where much worse at the beginning of March.

I think we have to get wins against Carolina and Montreal. Hopefully steal one game against Philly. I don't see us beating Pitt, NJD, or the Bruins right now.

One game, at a time.

And everything, will be fine.

We are close, but no cigar just yet.

We are likely to go 4-4. We are playing decent hockey now, but we have a tough schedule ahead, so I'd say 4-4 is the most likely outcome. Maybe 4-3-1.

As a Mets fan these are the same "if" scenarios that didn't pan out. The Mets did the impossible late in the year. As a cynical, bitter fan I feel the same thing will happen to my Rangers.

Lose 2 games to Philly when they will need only 1 stinkin' point to take the last spot and getting edged out by Florida for the 8th spot.

It's the Mets except Philly/Fla roles are reversed (Fla beat the Mets late to help the Philly's take the division).

5 games left.....89 point...

florida is winning now which would give them 87 points with 5 left...

if we can win just 2 of the final 5 that gives us 42 wins and 93 points..

florida would need to go 4-1 or 3-1-1 to pass us because of the win totals...

damn it feels sooo close yet sooo far, haha

It is way too soon. Montreal is now only 1 point behind us (with a game in hand) since they're gonna win tonight, and Florida only 2 points behind us as they're also gonna win tonight. Granted we are only 3 points out of the #4 spot, but we have some very tough games left. Carolina, Boston, Montreal and a Home-and-Home with Philly...oh boy.

Here is what Florida has: ATL, PITT, PHI, ATL, WSH
Here is what Montreal has: NYI, TOR, OTT, Us, BOS, PITT
Here is what Pittsburgh has: NJD, CAR, FLA, TB, NYI, MON
Here is what Carolina has: Us, PITT, NYI, BUF, NJD

We have a lot of the teams close to us playing one another. Because of this, we absolutely NEED these games to end in regulation. If all of these games go to OT and each team gets at least a point, that could be very bad. Obviously, we control our own destiny so that in itself is a big positive, but it is way, way, way too early, with too many variables to be so sure yet.
