NYI-Col Proposal

NYI trades Radek Martinek and or Freddy Meyer and a 3rd to Colorado for Scott Hannan.

I think this is pretty fair. Both teams are rebuilding and Colorado can use an extra pick as we are stacked with them. Also by getting Hannan who is pretty big, it makes Witt tradable imo. Thoughts?

No.

The Avs have enough defenseman as it is, so trading for two more doesn't make sense. Also, Hannan is worth more than two bottom pair defensemen and a 3rd.

No thanks. We can still afford Hannan. Hes not part of the core or anything, but the Avs aren't completely tearing it down. We want to try and compete next season or the season after and Hannan could help us do it.

The isles could have dealt Witt at this yr's trade deadline. It sounds like some team put a 2nd and a 4th on the table, but the Isles wanted more.

I doubt Witt gets moved before the 2010 trade deadline. He makes $1m less then Hannan. With Sutton and Witt both due back next season,I don't see the isles adding a 3rd high priced, stay at home defender.

Also, Martinek's contract is very team friendly.

Why would the Avs take a lesser form of Scott Hannan and a 3rd for Scott Hannan?

Meyer has no trade value either. Guy passed through waivers three times last season.

And I don't even particularly like it from the Isles' perspective. They have the same player signed cheaper in Brendan Witt. If you're gonna trade for a d-man, get one that can provide something offensively.

Avs would never do this.

Sutton is a high-priced defender as well. Probably more overpaid than Hannan is. He sucks. I would think the Isles try to dump his salary on someone else in the off season.

But the Isles have Martinek and Witt for the same price that Hannan makes. So I don't see them adding him.

We're seeing gms come out and say, they'll take another team's salary dump if that team will include a high pick or top prospect in the deal.

Sutton's signed for 1 more yr at $3m.

I'd rather keep Sutton for 1 more yr, then see the nyi trade a high pick or top prospect just to move him. It's not like the Isles will be up against the cap ceiling with him on the roster.

Exactly.

Freddy "Friggin Fringe NHLer" Meyer and a mid-round pick for Scott Hannan?

As an NYI fan, where do I sign up?!

Well if Colorado is looking to shed salary it makes sense, but even then I have to think Hannan has more trade value.

My guess is Colorado has a horseshoe up there butt and will end up picking first after the lottery

I don't think Hannan has much trade value, and given the money the Avs are spending on sub-standard defensemen as it is, there's gotta be a way to trade him... I don't think this is it though.

They aren't. That rumored was generated just to give people a reason to make up Ryan Smyth trade rumors at the deadline.

You mean you didn't get the fax already?

Even though this trade is skewed completely in NYI favor, I still say no. Too much money for cement shoes.
