Love the name...when was the last French Canadian on the Wings, Martin Lapointe?

The Memorial Cup will be aired on NHL Network, yes? Incredible year with Rimouski...I'll check him out.

Thats pretty common with overagers in juniors, but 72 pts as a d-man is pretty impressive..

I've never heard of this guy.. Should be interesting to see how he does next year..

He's always had that offenive ability . Its just hit its greatest point this season with Rimouski . He's a small guy that plays with this confidence / cockiness . Its good mix , he has a good shot .. he's also a decent skater . As one said above he needs help in his own end . He often loses his man , and his cought looking at the puck sometimes . He led the league in scoring for defencmen , so there's no harm in signing him . I think he needs some work . But if he progresses like he did in his years in junior it could be a great steal for us

He looks great, this could be interesting how he develops.

But offtopic, why did the wings sign him before Pare?

because piche was ufa and therefore "open market" while pare is in GR playing with the griffs and they should be in touch pretty often?

i'm not even sure pare gets one. he has the skills but does he have the skating? he might be a high-end AHLer like haydar one day, but NHL? at least doubtful.

Has anything official outside of the QMJHL article shown up on this yet? I haven't read anything from the Red Wings or the NHL on this signing and IB doesn't have it up on the cap page yet. I'm hoping for something official specifically with the numbers of years.

They can let Pare and Torquato fight for a contract in the playoffs.

Well... looking at the scoutreports he has "DANNY GROULX" written all over him in big letters in my books. I liked that signing those days but it didn't really pan out. Will it be different this time?! I won't be too optimistic until he shows he can handle the pro pace...

Yeah, though you have to keep in mind that 72 points for a D man in the Q.

His contrat expires in 2012 according to Red Wings Central.

Our scouts rarely fail when it comes to defensemen, but for netminders it's another story.

I read on several places on the internet (french forum mostly) that Francis Pare signed with the Wings last week. I found that link http://brossardeclair.canoe.ca/webap...classif=Sports

Take it for what it worth as it's not an official source. It's an article from the local journal from where Pare come from.

sounds valid IMO. and it would be 2 years.

maybe the wings will announce both alltogether. there are also the draftees that need contracts, so maybe it'll be one press release.

Quick translation.

Quote:
I am now a member of the Detroit Red Wings family. The Red Wings began the procedures with an offer to my agent, which we replied with a counter-offer that they accepted. I had butterflies in the stomach, and couldn't wait to call my parents.

At first I almost never played, and there was much doubt about my future. But since the Red Wings recalled players because of injuries, my coach started to use me more and I immediately regained enough confidence to become a regular player by mid-December.

Because I don't play on the special teams, I give the best out of myself on the 5-on-5. I work hard on both ends of the ice, and it is rewarding.

It is a two-way contract. The Red Wings mentioned that in the near future I could make the third or fourth line.
