Penguins sign Brad Thiessen

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed free agent goalie Brad Thiessen from Northeastern University.

Thiessen is one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker award as the top college hockey player for the 2008-09 season.
Surprised this hasn't had a topic yet.

Good signing. Was hoping for the Leafs to grab him, but guess we'll have to settle for Gustavsson

Can never have too many good prospects .... at the least, they are great trade bait.

Good job Shero once again!

Now, focus on Gilroy my friend!

Damb, I was hopping he would sign with the Leafs we could have used a good goalie prospect. Oh, well I guess you can't get em all.

Didn't realize he could be backup! good he deserves it, he's been a beast basically his entire career wherever he goes!

He could be yours for Nik Kulemin .

Good move by Shero. Baby Pens also signed Joe Vitale today on ATO, FWIW.

Anyone think Thiessen can be Fleury's backup next year or in the fairly near future if he's not used as trade bait?

He'll be at WBS. Curry will most likely be Fleury's backup.

It doesn't say but will he be put into the system this year? I don't think the Baby Pens have roster space.

Great for the Pens, although I'm not 100% sure why Thiessen would do this. Seems like he won't be anything more than a backup to MAF, whereas some of the teams rumored to be interested in him are pathetic enough in net that he could have had a shot at a few more games.

Not that I blame him for going to Pitts; hell, being on the same team as Crosby & Co. would certainly be enough reason for me to sign a contract.

Two of the Pens goalie prospects now, Thiessen and Pat Ehelechner, have the best websites for a hockey player I've ever seen!

Wow the lack of Pens hate here is scaring me. Do we have to wait for him to play with the Pens before everyone hates him unjustly?

GREAT Signing by the Pens...Well done I was REALLY hoping that BB was going to be fighting hard for him but like someone already said, you can't sign em all. Ah well there are still a couple more solid goaltending prospects out there for us to sign/draft!

Damn, I was REALLY hoping that Carolina would be able to pick him up. Great signing for the Pens, my bet is that Thiessen is fighting for the backup job there as soon as next season.

No, but comments like that will help bring on some hate I'd imagine.

Nice! Glad to hear we got him.
Could be a good competition between Curry and Thiessen for the backup job next year.
