Common sense. Teams are now realizing that in the cap era development and prospects on cheap contracts are more important than ever before. These franchises stand to benefit more-so than pre-lockout when internal development wasn't stressed as much as it is now. With the salary cap in effect, a free prospect has more value.

The cap is likely a factor. These entry level deals for players that are 23-24 years old that can potentially step in to the league right away or in a year can really open up some cap space for retaining some of their better players.

Two Pittsburgh boys got signed yesterday...I am so proud.

I think Mullen grew up in PGH...at the very least he spent part of his childhood here.
