Rangers One Of Five Teams in the Hunt for Gilroy

It's from Eklund, so who knows, but he states that the Rangers are one of five teams where Gilroy may end up. Wouldn't hurt the Rangers D-Depth and could make one of the Rangers other D-prospects expendable in a deal to get a scoring winger or move up in the draft.

Good.

Now, trade Rozsival for a used jock strap.

And, trade Redden for a disease infested cup to go with the jock.

Then we are in business.

I got excited until I saw that it was Eklund. Gilroy would really help out here, and I doubt there is only 5 teams in the hunt for him.

Could be the 5 teams that he is interested in playing for.

Same. When I saw the word Eklund I lost the short lived hope I had.

This would be good for the prospect depth. I would have loved to get Bozak but Gilroy would be nice too.

If you can bring in a quality player and it doesn't cost anything other than money then it doesn't matter what position he plays--you just bring him in.

Gilroy would be great....if this was to happen Sather better trade away Rozsival or Redden....I would bet that Gilroy would probably be a better PP QB then either of those useless pieces of ****.

Sign him and trade Rozsival for picks and prospects. I'd be very happy if this happened, since it would most likely mean the end of Rozsival in New York. Not that I don't like Rozy as a player, but getting rid of his 5 million will help a lot in extending Callahan, Dubinsky, and Antropov.

Most likely only a subtraction of 2-2.5 mil cap loss. Gilroy won't be free. I expect if we get Gilroy, then Redden AND Rozsival are goners and Sangs plays in the NHL next year and we use the cap space to sign Gaborik or Franzen.

Franzen in blue, I would love that. I doubt Detroit lets him walk though.

Gilroy can only get a max amount of $850K because it will be an entry level deal. He can get bonus's, but I think that is limited by the CBA as well.

Good call. Forgot about that. He should get the same deal as Bozak then. 875k base, in which he can earn 3.2 mil in bonuses.

Who would you rather have Franzen or Hossa?

Honestly, it's tough. Especially considering contracts where Hossa is expected to receive quite a bit more. And point-wise, they are pretty close this season.

Very good. He is too old to get drafted, and was an unknown forward walk-on freshman for BU that was moved to defense to just be on the team and is a lock for the Hobey Baker.

I'm not sure of the exact reason why but Gilroy is not covered by the entry level agreement and he can get whatever the market will bear. Tis is probably why only 5 teams are still in the running.

Not a lock for the Hobey Baker. His teammate Colin Wilson is considered the odds on favorite.

Next year, he would be a very, very reliable bottom pairing defenseman, possibly a decent #4. By reliable, I don't mean I think he is going to excel right away, I just mean he can really help out and won't make any bonehead plays.

If he is signed, I could see this...
Staal-Girardi
Gilroy-Redden/Rozsival
Mara-Sanguinetti

Although I would avoid having two rookies on defense, Gilroy is already 24/25, so he is probably less prone to the inevitable mental mistakes by young defenseman.

Gilroy does not fall under the entry level system.

The Rangers have bigger needs than burning $2 million per on a 25 year old college defenseman
