"In Dire Straits" - 04.04.09 - Nashville vs. Columbus
We all know the importance of tonight's game. A loss tonight coupled with a St. Louis win in Dallas could very well put us out of the playoff race. This is an absolute must-win contest against one of our most hated rivals, who are trying hard to clinch their first ever playoff berth.
You know the injuries. You know the lineups. None of it matters tonight. What matters tonight is that we come out and fight like we have our backs against the wall. What matters tonight is that we stymie Columbus' attack. What matters tonight is that we give Arnott a reason to come back as soon as he can. But what matters most tonight is that we come away with points.
With the Predators’ playoff hopes teetering on the brink, center Jason Arnott will be back in the lineup tonight against Columbus.
Arnott said Thursday he probably wouldn’t play before Tuesday’s game against Chicago, but changed his mind after good workouts the last few days.
``I skated hard the last couple of days and felt pretty good,’’ Arnott said. ``I wanted to see how I felt this morning after the plane ride and after skating (Friday). I felt pretty good. I said I’d give it a whirl this morning and it felt okay, so I’m going to try tonight.’’
wow, gotta give the capn props for returning before he is really probably ready to.
My heart says we win this one, me head says:
Jackets 4, Oreilly 1.
My emotions are getting the better of me, I was really proud of Cbus and wanted them to make the playoffs and do well until that last game when I had the displeasure of sharing a chatroom with some of their fans during the game. They were some of the most obnoxious jerks that I've shared a discourse with.
As much as I want our central division brethren to suceed, Id be happy to see them crash and burn just so those guys would get their big fat yap fastened.

ok, I feel better now.
Every team has their share of jackasses, except the Preds...you guys are GREAT
Rather have you guys in than the Blues, now THERE are some annoying fans.
Arnott may just be what we need, but I don't think he is ready to return. Lets hope he is.

I have a bad feeling about Arnott coming back tonight. He must have passed his baselines though which is supposedly as good an indicator as any that your eggs aren't scrambled anymore.

this is true, I sit in the cheap seats and one night I honestly debated tripping a Blues fan who was going down the steps, he antagonized me all game long and I think I could have gotten away with it too.
I think Im just a bit bitter with all these injuries, it hardly seems fair, then again no one owes us anything and it is games and sports. I truly wanted all 5 central teams in the playoffs but the chance of Anaheim tanking just isnt looking possible.
We gotta pull out a win somehow tonight, glad to have Arnott back.
I agree. I do think the Jackets are due for a playoff run. They went through years of inept management and coaching. They consistently drafted high, but they were unable to find what they were looking for. Enter some intelligence - get a coach that teaches the forwards defense - check! Get a GM that knows what he is doing - check! Get rid of the players that refuse to play defense (see Zherdev, Nikolai) - check! Improve your team (love the Kristan Huselius signing, bring in Tyutin/Umberger) - check.
They had a heck of an off-season. They overpaid for Umberger, but they remodeled their team for the better. Steve Mason has been incredible for them this year, but if Leclaire had not gotten hurt so early on - I don't think it would have mattered.
WITH THAT SAID - I still hope we stomp them tonight . Old habits die hard
I will be cheering for them and the Hawks. I could even root for the BLues. It's quite easy, who are you gonna push for: the sharks or wings? no chance, a canadian team? not over my dead body.
And Devries totally hands a goal to the Jackets. Mishandles an easy pass. Flubs getting it out of the zone, and then he floats around in the defensive zone doing nothing. Terrible play from a guy that should be making zero mistakes right now.....The sad thing is, it was a nothing play until Devries, unforced, made the error.
Holy crap...Weber snaps his stick in half on his shot and still scores. The puck was redirected by Peca actually.....still, what an amazing shot. To set it up for those not able to view the game, it was a direct faceoff win by Arnott back to Weber for the goal.
EDIT: and Fiddler totally abandons his man, Novotny, who skates in, gets the rebound and roofs the puck. Amazing....
You guys got hosed on the "double-minor for high sticking" when our own guy high-sticked Umby. We may not score since our PP sucks, but still, bad call!
