Bruntlett will be more of the 4th OF than an IF.

Ahh. This day is always right. I'm going to come in from work, have enough time to make a dinner, and be able to watch this one in its entirety.

Go Phils.

BP without Romero is a little iffy.

That being said, they have a talented roster, they have confidence, and they have potentially a pretty darn good starting staff.

The determining factor again is going to be the pitching, particularly the starters.

Can Myers be the pitcher he was in the 2nd half last year?
Can Hamels stay healthy?
Can Moyer repeat last year?
Can Blanton pitch at a 4.20 clip for a full season?
How long will it take Park to flame out?

No one picked the Phillies to repeat.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/previe...=09expertpicks

Some of those picks are unreal. The one lady has the Giants winning the West.

The only people's picks I would put any merit into are Peter Gammons, Tim Kurkjian, and Buster Olney. They are the only 3 knowledgeable baseball minds at ESPN.

I'll give you Olney and Kurkijan, but swap out Gammons for Hershiser.

Am I the only one who thinks Manny won't be nearly as much of a factor as he was last year?

Hey come on, Gammons is great if you want to hear about how Jason Varitek might not put up gaudy numbers, but there's not a better signal caller in the league.

Or how Josh Beckett is finally rounding back into Cy Young form.

Or how Jonathan Papelbon is a near lock to shatter the saves record this year.

Or how Jacoby Ellsbury might be the fastest man on the planet.

Or how a healthy Ortiz should give Pedroia some competition in this year's AL MVP race.

In other news, the other 29 MLB teams still exist.

It seems that over the last few seasons, Ive read how the Mets are going to take the East, and every year, the Phils take it from them....enought already, if the Mets couldnt take it from the Phils in the 07' Season, when they had a better team, theres no way they can take it easily this year........and I think Sheffield was tricked into thinking he's gunna get alot of time in the outfield in New York...

What's weird about those picks is that a lot of people have the Rays repeating. Am I the only one who thinks that the rays run to the WS last year was luck? I mean they have a good young team, don't get me wrong..but I really don't see them matching up with the Red Sox or Yankees this year at all. The Phillies on the other hand, still have the same team as last year and you could make an argument that no team in the NL really got better. The Braves signed Lowe, Mets have a good back-of-the-pen now, but no vast improvements. I guess that's just my opinion, thou.

I agree about the Rays. To be honest, there is now way the Yankees should not win the World Series. The only problem they might have is that they have too much talent on that team. The Rays will finish behind the Red Sox's who will finish behind the Yankees. God I hate saying that. They will all be close though.

He's a lifelong Bostonian (I think) with season tickets to the Redsox...not his fault ESPN decided to let him out of the bubble. He's easily one of the best baseball writers out there.

Moreover, Phils have nothing to complain about with ESPN, Jayson Stark is just as quick to bring up Philly.

Jim Caple is a decent writer, but Randy Johnson as NL Cy Young? What in the eff? The guy has had his fair share of injuries recently and has seen a decline in his abilities over the past few years. He's good at using a more even handed approach -- as opposed to his days of overpowering everyone with that wicked Fastball/Slider game -- but no way is it dominating. I reaaaaaaaaaalllly hope Caple made a typo.

Even though I feel this team is better than last years team, I don't think they will repeat. The Big Red Machine is the only NL team to repeat in the last 90 years. Last year was a magical season, which I think will be hard to duplicate. They didn't have a lot of injuries and I feel like their bullpen overachieved. Anyway, I can't wait. Go Phillies.
