He wouldn't fit under the cap either.

Kukkonen has to clear re-entry waivers, Sbisa is too expensive (plus his next regular season game this year would be his 40th & one year off his UFA status), Ratchuk is also too expensive and they probably want Syvret to stay down and help the Phantoms in their playoff push.

Sbisa already lost a year off UFA status.

What's the 40 game rule then?

Edit: I'm pretty sure the exceeding nine games took a year off his contract, but he had to play more than 39 to lose a year off his UFA status.

I think its 40 games on the active roster, and he was scratched some games.

Im not sure what the actual rule is

Wow, they must really have run out of options.

Good for Sloane though, he gets to dress and collect an NHL paycheck for a day. Hopefully he gets a shift, but I wouldn't bet on it if the game is close.

I don't think he did. I think he missed the cut-off by 1 game.

He'll be playing for free right? That's probably why he's in the lineup. We'd go over the cap otherwise

What GKJ is reffering to is that we dont think the rule is 40 games played, its 40 game days on the active roster. healthy scratch counts

The 40-game rule is only to be able to send him back to juniors. He lost the off of his contract when he played his 10th game. I believe that's the rule. It's only been 2 months since I had to refer to it last.

No actually thats not quite right. after 10 games a year is off his contract, yes but after 40 it counts as a full season towards UFA status over RFA status.
From what I'm reading here Sbisa gets a full season for having 40 games on active roster

from nhlscap.com
Quote:
ACCRUED SEASON - a season of service used for the purposes of determining eligibility for unrestricted free agency. A player earns an accrued season if he is on his club's Active Roster for at least 40 regular-season games [30 if a goalie]; if a player suffers a hockey-related injury while on the Active Roster, the games missed due to such injury also count as games on the Active Roster to a maximum of the season in which the injury occurred and one (1) additional season.
Quote:
ACTIVE ROSTER - the group of players signed to a SPC and who are not on the Injured Reserve List, Injured Non Roster, designated Non-Roster, or Loaned; includes players who are on a Conditioning Loan and players who are suspended. The Active Roster exists from the day before the start of the Regular Season, and expires at the end of the team's last NHL Game in a League Year, and has a minimum size of 20 players and a maximum size of 23 players.

He was on the active roster for 40 games, so he loses a year towards UFA status. He lost a year off of his contract in his 10th game. After 40 games played, he wouldn't have been able to go back to juniors.

The Phantoms don't play tonite. Cote is done so we should have his cap space to work with plus what we saved with our deadline deal. If that is still not enough space to call up a player than our deadline deal did not even do what it was supposed to do...

Correct, but they played last night and play on both Saturday and Sunday. That would be four games in four days for Syvret.

The Flyers could call up someone making $750K (roughly) or less.

Thanks for the above clarification, Hover.

I think we wont get Cote's space, because you have to be LTIR

They would only be able to replace Cote's salary, which is $550K, and it has to be done right away, and they called up Nodl to do it, who makes more. Unless Cote wasn't put on LTIR yet. By comparison, Josh Gratton makes the same. It's who they probably should have called up, because it would have been extra cap space they had. They obviously felt Nodl adds more. Poor cap management, but they knew it would put them in this situation. When the playoffs come, they can do whatever they want because the cap is absolved. They finally don't have to worry about it, and can use the players they choose to.

Nodl isnt replacing cote's salary, hes using our extra cap space for the full roster including cote.

Right now Cote is still on the cap

you have to be out a certain amount of time first dont you? He's listed as a scratch today so he's definitly not LTIR

you have to be projected to be out 10 games or 24 days. What was Riley's timetable?
