It's Svensson Pääjärvi god dammit.

I guess my real question is that if the team who holds his NHL rights wants him to come over and play in the NHL next season, is that even a possibility, or does his contract overseas 100% nullify any chance of that happening?

^ I asked the same thing earlier and was told he'd likely have an NHL out-clause in his contract...though I'm going on the Swedes for this stuff, I know nothing about contracts in the SEL and what highly touted draftee's usually sign.

Since his father is the top ice hockey agent in Sweden I would assume he has worked an NHL clause into his son's contract.

This guy looks really good, and whoever is lucky enough to draft him, I envy them so much.

It's so frustrating sometimes to have a winning team every year and miss out on this kind of all-star talent. I would die to trade up and draft S-P.

The OP said that he was the best prospect to come out of sweden in a while. Guess they hadn't heard of Hedman yet. That said, MSP is going to be something special. Sounds like a guy with Naslund's talent who plays a grittier game. It's unreal that he was being followed that long ago.

They could have easily meant forward wise, or maybe excluding Hedman. Everybody talks about Hedman. How they were able to hear about Magnus and not Hedman would be nothing short of a miracle.

It's funny how this thread started back in 2005, & now this Paajarvi is finally on his way to the NHL.

Hedman didn't really come around with too much steam, until about 2 years ago or so. Paajarvi has been a prodigy in Sweden for some time... in '05, Hedman wasn't quite what he is now, as a prospect.

I know I haven't seen much of the kid, but are there other people who think people fall in love too quickly with this kid? He's a first round talent and all, but the comparisons are little out of this world right now, I'm sure he can be a fine talent in the NHL, but I don't see the bigger Naslund there.

Hedman is overrated, he's not gonna have the Norris-like career everyone assumes.

He's big but doesn't play big, has zero vision and have a neck for making stupid choices.

Everyone sees his size and skating, and assumes that's enough.

MSP is a bigger talent.

MSP is a bigger talent.
Superficial opinion.

And LOL at "zero vision". Yeah 18 y.o. with "zero vision" was a 1st pairing defenseman and scored 21 pts in SEL.

Msp is a special talent as a swede one of the better we have ever had then we talk in the mold of forsberg and näslund.
Ofcourse its not sure he will end upp as good as they but he has the talent to be one of swedens better players ever.

Asinine.

18 yr. old D-man.

Playing SEL hockey.

Against grown men.

Once again, 18 yr. old D-man.

He'll get better.

He compares himself to Markus Naslund.

I hear people call him a mix of Forsberg/Naslund *Orgasms*

Just curious if MSP is strictly a left winger or can he play right wing as well or even center.

18 years old,

Just look at Hedman's numbers:
GP: 43
Points: 21

At the same age in the SEL:

Nicklas Lidstrom (Vasteras)
GP: 20
Points: 2

Kenny Jonsson (Rogle)
GP: 39
Points: 13

Niklas Kronwall (Djurgarden)
GP: 37
Points: 5

I have to ask, is there any particular reason why scouts and critics alike don't think MSP could go #2, or even #1?

I mean personally, I like Hedman as #1 but if I were picking 2nd it would be Magnus without a doubt. From what I've seen and heard, he is so much more dynamic than John Tavares.

I just don't see JT living up to the hype while I see Magnus really flourishing in the NHL. Great skater, nice passer, vision, can snipe it... just the total package.

Is John Tavares really going to be that special, or is it simply a case of the great Canadian hype machine at work?
