Well Pekka gave it his best but his not-much-better-than Osgood stats in the last seven games told the tale. Trotz knew he should have pulled him at 3-1 but he also knew that he had gambled away that option by selling out Dan Ellis this season. This is pretty much the entire story of the season - the mismanagement of prospects but oh yeah, the Preds got a Calder Cup nominee out of it right. For all of you fickle goalie fans and Ellis bashers check this out: http://www.nhl.com/ice/threestarsstandings.htm
Ellis played 30 games and took the brunt of a poorly guided team coming out of the shoot. Oh yes and Ellis was also second highest in the league for the least number of goals scored by his team while in net. He stood on his head, took Rinne's losses when he got pulled, was the star of pretty much every game he played in but the team let him down. How many of the goals scored on him were by his own D?? Ellis is a playoff goalie and he would have taken this team to the playoffs again this season. All you fickle fans who cheered for Ellis last season when he stood on his head in his shut-out record and phenomenal run against Detroit (aka The Hockey News) should hang your heads in shame for turning your back on that kid. Like Chris Mason, it will all come back to haunt you, Poile, Trotz et al. Poor Poor Team Management all around.

This season, much like the stretch run last season, has been some of the most fun I've ever had watching a sports team. It's sad we couldn't make the playoffs this year but I'm still proud of our team.
I'm not going to root for or against anyone in this postseason. I just hope to see some quality hard fought playoff hockey. Congratulations to the teams who did make it. I know it was hard earned b/c our team fought like crazy to make the postseason.
