Ryder, Halak + 2nd round pick

Last year, everyone's proposal involving Montreal had them giving up the surplus Ryder, Halak, 2nd rounder, until it became a joke around here.

I'm curious what kind of value this package has today...

Ryder is a proven 30 goal scorer, who seems to have found his form again, even though that form is somewhat one-dimensional.

Halak has been very solid, and probably has earned the Montreal starter gig for this season, except for Bob Gainey needing to constantly justify choosing Price 5th overall, by playing him over a better (at this moment) goalie, to the point where it nearly cost Montreal a playoff berth. Halak looks like he might be starter material.

Montreal's 2nd round pick was Danny Kristo, who I know nothing about, except with a name like Kristo, he should be on the Oilers.

I see Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd having pretty decent value today, it's certainly not a joke package anymore.

For example, if DETROIT picked up this package, they would upgrade a lot in goal (yes, I know Halak isn't proven, but I'd gamble on him before trusting Osbad). Ryder would help their powerplay.

Another team this would help would be the Flyers, for the upgrade in goal (I'm not a Biron fan). They would be better off swapping Ryder for a defenseman, though.

If Chicago had made this move, they wouldn't have given the mediocre Christobal Huet a fat long contract.

Washington, Edmonton, and Colorado could also use Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd.

What would be the return price for this package ?

According to Habs fans any player, prospect, or draft pick of their choosing.

Totally, I was thinking Crosby, Luongo and a 2nd.

Price was great in the 1st half. His second half performance has been terrible for the most part.

Halak gave the Habs a 5-6 game winning streak a month ago when they needed it badly. He has had few bad games and many great games in the 2nd half.

I'm not saying Halak > Price forever. But right now, based on how they are currently playing, Halak > Price, and gives the team a better chance to win.

What is Halak's won loss record, and GAA, SV % since February 1, and what is Price's ?

You can say Price is underachieving, and that is true, he will be better than Halak eventually, but you can't deny that Halak has been very very good for the most part lately.

Ryder is a Bruin

Halak is a career backup and a decent situational filler (when your real starter is injured as an example) ...he will never be a #1 goalie.

a 2nd is worth that.

the package is worth not too much.

.../edit ...and i thought he'd said Higgins LOL ...he's not a 30 goal scorer though.

If by stink, you mean they're both young, I'll agree.

I can sum it up on just one word.... Injury. Price looked like total crap when he rushed back from injury so he could play in the stupid all star game. When he returned from injury he sucked (and so did the entire team) but he was playing much much better of late up until he got sick, when he came back he hasn't been very good.

I'll nominate myself as the second person to state that Ryder doesn't player for Montreal.

I would think that's sort of important......

No shiite, sherlock.

This is a hypothetical situation where I want to know the value of this package. I'm not suggesting Montreal is about to make this trade.

What would a package of Crosby and Ovechkin be worth?

Since we're on to hypothetical things and all.

Your relevance is about the same as the state of Michigan, none.
