I'm torn between Yelle and Warrener, both have spectacular work ethics, they bring up the play of their linemates, and they were both critical players in the Flames run (and in several other runs before).
I might pick Warrener because he is quite outspoken and has actively addressed problems with teammates before.
I think it will be someone like Nilson. Sutter has been PREACHING about how he wants a younger team and a core of around 25-28 years old and Nilson fits that bill. He has leadership and I believe was an "A" with Florida. Gelinas and Warrener are not core players and are out of the age group Sutter is building around. It would be better to make a guy like Nilson an "A" and have him for 5 more years wearing the letter than a guy like Yelle or Gelinas who will be gone in 1-2 seasons. Sutter is interested in the "longterm" building, not shorterm.
Warrener is only 28 years old. Same age as Iginla, Reinprecht, Langkow, he is in the perfect age range for Sutter.
Nilson is 26.
Warrener will be 29 this year. I would also prefer to have 2 letters in the forward area and one in the defense area. Basically it would leave 2 guys (C and A) to motivate 9 forwards and 1 (A) to motivate 6 defenseman. I would not want only one captain to motivate 9 forwards. My thinking is that guys have more of an impact on their positions and players who play the same area (defense-defense, etc).
