Official Draft Louis Leblanc Thread

Draft is in Montreal. It would be a PR nightmare to draft Pete from Ontario or from Sweden ( no offence to Pete or Lars) Louis Leblanc is the highest-ranked Quebec-born forward. Pittsburgh, Tampa, Boston are all in hot pursuit. If he's gone before 14 - Jordan Caron, Phillippe Paradis, David Gilbert will be available. Who do we grab?

If he's the BPA, we'll draft him.

I'd prefer a PR nightmare to a hockey nightmare.

Best player available.

it would be a nightmare if we draft a player based on his birthplace and not on his hockey skills..

Since we will be drafting around 18th, I am leaning in Leblanc direction also. A few others I like are Kassian(his toughness and decent offensive, could he be another Hartnell?). Kreider I like in first round also, tough and can score

I want us to draft a scoring forward, with size.
Best player available, not best FRENCH player.

And I will freely admit I have no earthly clue. If he's good and available at our pick, sure grab him.

But his last name should have nothing to do with it.

Well you said it yourself...he's doing everything he can right so he won't be our guy...

Leblanc is not a bad choice by any means. Chances are there will be other guys as well.

Seems like its a very deep draft...i'm sure some players will drop down to our rank that were supposed to go earlier..Even though it would be really hard to pass over a a few of the high end defencemen that could drop down, I think Timmins really needs to go for a big center with the highest upside. Gotta roll the dice on somebody who could be a homerun.

I've rarely seen a Canadian kid shoot up 10-20 positions due to a strong U18 showing.

I still think if we don't make it past the first round, he'll be available. And then I'll kidnap Timmins' family. Just for assurance.

Big center with a very good scoring touch..was a little under the radar as he plays on a crappy team, but is now proving at the U-18's how dominant he can be...If he drops to us i hope to god we pick him

Big body, can play center (may be better suited for wing because he can chew up the boards like the best of them), good offensive flair, plays a physical game, great drive to the net, lightning quick release.

Goal scoaring forward with good enough vision and hockey sense to consider he might develop into a top line forward.

Currently top goal-scorer at U18's with 4 in 2 games.

If you want an NHL comparison, a poor man's Dany Heatley or Jeff Carter should be accurate enough. A bit more physical than both, but definately not as talented. I just like his style a lot. Should make a smooth transition to the NHL.

Well we have no idea what the final rankings will be since they're not out yet so who knows where he's at right now. Chances are you'll see a guy like Holland drop down a little and Werek taking up some spots. Then it depends what we do in the playoffs. Of course, I don't expect Werek to be top 10. But at best, he could be #14 to #18, which could mean just ahead of us depending where we finish, I know. Though I don't think there's a need to choose sooner. If Werek is not there, chances are guys like Kassian, Kreider, Leblanc, Glennie and Holland will be. And they all answer something we don't have enough. But I am on Werek's bandwagon like I still am on Holland's bandwagon....and Glennie's.....and so on....

Drafting based on birthplace is the way to go.

Afterall, good Canadian boys like Terry Ryan and Matt Higgins should lead us to the cup. When that fails, we can fall back on players like Eric Chouinard.

You know, since we didn't learn anything about drafting BPA back in the 90s.

I loved Eric Chouinard <3

Face it, the Q has not manufactured a lot of great talent in the last years. It's the worse of the CHL leagues by far. (Goalies withstanding)

This stuff should be talked about after we have been officially eliminated from playoffs, but how about our chances at adding another first round pick. I see Minny as potential matchup for us. Last October, before Gaborik hurt his hip, rumours had Minny very interested in Higgins. They must like him quite a bit. How about us trading rights to Koivu(to finish his career with his brother), Halak(Minny could retrade him for another player) and Higgins for Minnesota's #1 and early rights to Gaborik? Trade based on us being able to resign Gaborik of course.
