Ak Bars HC becomes Russian champion

(Kazan, April 12, Tatar-inform, Mikhail Mironov). Kazan’s Ak Bars is Russian champion in ice hockey! They have defeated HC Lokomotiv from Yaroslavl I the seventh match of Gagarin Cup series with the score 1:0. Ak Bars has become the first winner of Gagarin Cup.

The top officials of the Continental Hockey League arrived in Kazan for the decisive match of Gagarin Cup on Cosmonautics Day. The following officials watched the match at Tatneft-Arena’s VIP-box: the Continental Hockey League President Alexander Medvedev, the CHL Board of Directors Chairman Vyacheslav Fetisov, Russian Hockey Federation President Vladislav Tretyak, and Governor of Yaroslavl Province Sergei Vakhrukov. Tatarstan was by tradition represented by the main hockey fan of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev.

For two periods, the score in the game remained 0:0. Only in the middle of the third period, Kazan players performed a successful positional attack. Danis Zaripov “dragged” the puck through the pitch, came out of the goal-line and shot; Andrei Pervyshin and Aleksei Morozov finished the move - 1:0.

Kazan hockey club became a three-time champion of Russia. For the first time in the history of Russian championships the team became champions on its home ice.

The club will represent Russia at European League of Champions next season.

Ak Bars (Kazan) – Lokomotiv (Yaroslavl) -1:0 (0:0, 0:0, 1:0).

Makes the Svitov crap hurt more, as Emelin would have been playing up until now. Oh well, **** happens. Congrats to AK Bars Panthers for the Cup. It also would have been the 2nd championship series Emelin would have played in, as I watched him play for Lada in '05 during the lockout against Markov and his team Dynamo (they won it), was a great game, very intense.
