Hugh Jessiman Signs Extension

Hugh Jessiman has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Nashville Predators.

The deal is a two-way deal, and will keep Jessiman in the Predators organization through the 2009-2010 season.

"It's a good fit for him there," said Jessiman's agent George Bazos.

Jessiman has the unfortunate distinction of being the only first round pick from the 2003 draft yet to play in the NHL. However, Jessiman and his agent feel that could change.

The 6'6", 230 pound power forward has developed into an offensive threat for the Admirals this season - something that has caught they eye of Nashville's front office.

"The management there does believe that he can play at the NHL level for them in the future," said Bazos.

In 58 games with Milwaukee, Jessiman has tallied 19 goals (trailing only Mike Santorelli), and 7 assists. He has also brought a physical presence to the lineup that was critical when Triston Grant went down with a broken jaw.

Nice to see him get a contract somewhere. If nothing else, he's good depth.

Meh. I'd like to see what he could do in front of the net on the powerplay. I haven't got to see this guy in action, so I have no idea what has held him back.

Nice to see... Hugh's been a nice addition to the Ads this year. IMO his biggest weakness is his puckhandling skills combined with his slow speed, but his shot is pretty awesome.

He has scored arguably the top two highlight reel goals of the year for the Admirals.

A guy of his size should be able to hold his own in a fight more than he actually does. But he's definitely improved over the course of the season, and I'd say he had a legit case to be in the discussions this week with regards to being recalled.

Of course, we could REALLY use him here right now...

Look at this!

John Glennon is reporting that Hugh Jessiman has signed a one-year extension.

(It wasn't even filed under the "Old News" section......)

well, we're probably penciling him into our top six for next year, so I'm not surprised...

Interesting that it was a two way deal. I thought I had heard that it was one way. Can't beat the price and he gets a chance to show what he has on a now or never basis. Would be nice to see him work out.

Almost verbatim from the press release issued earlier today from the Predators at their annual end of the season media day...

Not gonna happen...Jessiman will at best be given a shot to make the team out of camp because he needs to clear waivers to be sent down, but will be looked upon mainly as a depth call-up in the event of an injury next season. Hugh was under consideration for a recall late this season and would've gotten bottom-six minutes in the event that he was called up.

I was happy to see that the deal was a two-way contract with a base salary of $70k at the AHL level because it means that he will not have to clear waivers to be recalled next season.

Does anyone know what the future considerations were in the deal that brought him from the rangers?
My guess was either the preds had to resign him, or he had to get called up (which obviously didnt happen)

Not a clue, most of the time "Future Considerations" are "Hey we'll take this guy off your hands for you for free."
