World's final only one game...

god forbid the league let us see good, competitive hockey games past the expiration of the CBA. Instead of the usual best of three format (last time it was one-and-done was in 1981, I believe, which coincidentally was the last time a team from Europe (Soviet Union) won. Great way to promote the sport, by not taking advantage of some good hockey with the world's stars on stage.

I guess it's a timing thing. With the CBA expiring and training camps wanting to open, they probably decided they couldn't fit it all in. Though I don't see why they couldn't have started a few days earlier. I agree though, I'd rather see a best of three. If it was single elimination in '96, the US wouldn't have won.

No, it's not that kind of tournament.

The Olympics is why they wouldn't start earlier.

I dunno, I know a lot of players just arent into it anymore. With the season as long and hard as it is and the olympics seemingly more important, the tournament had enough people turning it down or dodging it as is. Which says nothing for a longer tournament.

I mean it was one game and nobody really noticed... what good would 3 do? It's just three times the games that the average person could care less about.

If it was the U.S. vs Canada...

three games may be a different story.

But of course it wasn't. The point was the rationale behind not having three games.
