Habs fans opinions on "Burke going after Tavares"

Does anyone else thing this is retarded? I know the isles are poorly managed but COME ON. And what do you guys think a package TO would have to use in order to aquire said pick would be?

I think it's laughable personally. Yeah when Malkin was coming up I'm sure Burke wanted to land that pick too

Do you guys think he can make a deal or it's highly unlikely?

What would he give up? Schenn + 1st +...?

Yeah, they don't have the assets.

Burke is a toolshed.

Millbury isn't the GM anymore.

Unless a confirmed superstar is going the other way, which the Leafs don't have, the Isles are keeping Tavares.

He says the entire team, bar Schenn, is available in a trade for the Isles' pick. I think the entire Laffs team, bar Schenn, still isn't worth Tavares. Burke's a mental case if he thinks he can get that pick WITHOUT including Schenn. And even with him, Burke doesn't have enough assets of any value, including his top three picks from this year, to add to a package for that first overall.

Burke would forcefully strong arm the Islanders in trading the pick for Gerber straight up.

But really what do the leafs have to offer that they would want besides nothing?

3 1st Round Picks (09/10/11) plus Tlusty and Kaberle. Toronto gets the 1st Overall Pick and also takes the Yashin buyout back (somehow). Condition placed on Tavares that if he plays and win the Calder Trophy, New York also receives Toronto's 2nd Round Picks for 09, 10 and 11.

That would get it done. Who cares, Toronto still couldn't win a Cup with Tavares.

Unless they will trade Schenn plus their 2009 and 2010 picks, I don't see it happening. NYI does not want Blake, they let him walk and he isn't worth much.

When you combine Brian Burke, who is probably the most pig headed GM in the game bar none, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And the stupidity that is the Islanders and their ownership and management, I can actually see this happening.

I certainly wouldn't put it past Burke to make every effort to get the 1st pick, and I certainly woudln't put it past Wang and his cracker jack managerial team to trade it away for peanuts(or cracker jacks).

Burke is a jerk and he makes me hate the Maple Leafs more than before (is that even possible?).

The only guy who could possibly, maybe, land him the first pick is Schenn. But Burke got major boner when he speaks of him, so Schenn's not going nowhere, nor the Isles first pick.

You never know what his plan is. The whole going after Tavares may be a smoke screen to get what he really wants. He gets everyone focused on that and a team feels like "Man NY almost gave him the pick for a+b+c+d+e" and they feel giving they're 3rd is worth it and Burke gets Schenn or even Hedman.

I doubt it, this is all obvious but the truth is the Leafs don't have a lot to give up to interest anyone so who gives a crap.

Who are we drafting?

There's no way the Islanders give up on the only break they have been given in the last 10 yrs.

Plus the Leafs have nothing worth even close Tavares (who is the next Heatley to me).

From listening to Burke on TSN he said he will find out which team wants Tavares and deal from there. According to Burke the Isles aren't necessarily going to pick Tavares. Doesn't matter anyway, I don't think he has a prayer in hell of acquiring Tavares, or Hedman.

While anything is possible, I just don't see how he has the horses on the Leafs or in the form of prospects to make a deal that would be worth it to the Isles or Tampa.

How many future draft picks are you technically allowed to trade? How many seasons ahead?

Maybe if Burke said 1st in 2010-2015 + Schenn + Blake + Kaberle he could get a deal

Who cares? What GM in the top top 10-12, excluding the Isles, wouldn't go after Tavares?

Burke's a very good GM, but he loves to hear his own voice...his end of season press conference was Oscar worthy, he loves the attention.

If the Leafs get Tavares, good for them, make it happen...Tavares is no Crosby, Ovechkin or Malkin...he's a great prospect no doubt, but if any team wants to go trading important assets for...John Tavares...be my guest.

Guys like Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin have changed the game, they've made the #1 overall pick almost priceless.

And that's why he picked Toronto. He has competition though as Ron Wilson also adores his own voice. I have a feeling he won't last.

Alot of teams are going to attempt to trade up in the draft. The percentage who are successful, well who knows.

I don't see why, outside of trying to excite the fan base, Burke says something like this. Total fluff.

I think if you said "Malkin for picks 2010-2020" it would be allowed.

burke is full of himself, the guy gets off on hearing his own voice. he doesn't have anyone good enough to convince the islanders to give up the number 1 pick.
