IMO, going the World Championships route is a great move. It allows Wilson to keep his amateur status so that there is no immediate pressure on him to turn pro, he gets to play against quality competition in an environment full of NHL players, both Trotz (assistant coach for Team Canada) and Poile (associate GM for Team USA) will be on hand to watch and evaluate his readiness, and it is a short tournament format.

One of the biggest adjustments from college to the pros is the length of the season. NCAA has a lower number of games, but a far greater practice to game ratio. Wilson has participated starting last summer in the Predators summer rookie camp, the Team USA World Juniors camp, Boston University's training camp and first semester, another week with the Team USA World Juniors preparing for and then another two weeks playing in the World Juniors Tournament, Boston University's second semester, the Hockey East Championships, the NCAA Regionals, and finally the NCAA Championships. It is a long season...

Hopefully, by going this route, both Wilson and the Predators get a solid read on his NHL readiness and use the tournament to decide where he will get the opportunity to start the season if he does turn pro. Wilson will be participating again in the summer prospect camp, so I'm not necessarily sure that a long playoff run with Milwaukee might be in his best interests in terms of allowing him to recoup and recharge for next fall's training camp.
