Globe and Mail: Angelil, Bronfman, Peladeau teaming up to buy Habs?

That's what the Globe and Mail is reporting:

http://sports.theglobeandmail.com/se...rtsHockey/home

That would make for some great board meetings. I wonder if all those three personalities could co-exist together. Personally I'd rather one principal owner rather than three potentially butting heads.

This trio of potential buyers is said to be contemplating a dedicated pay-TV channel in Quebec that would carry Habs games and other hockey-related content as one way to increase revenues from the team.

Just the thought of seeing Celine singing national anthem and Julie Snyder animating between periods on the ice with a crazy dress makes me...

**** no.

I'm all for a dedicated channel like Leafs TV that shows exclusive content about the team and such, but being forced to pay to watch every game on a PPV channel is ridiculous. WE WILL RIOT! ...or do as usual and accept it like a bunch of sheep.

I'd see a scenario where the Saturday night games on TVA to boost TV ratings. While the Tuesday/Thursday games would be on that pay-per-view channel.

That channel could be quite profitable like the YES network for the NY Yankees.

But the YES network is not a pay per view channel, its a TV network available to subscribers of various cable providers.
Users might have to pay a monthly fee for that channel but they are not paying a fee for each game.

Quebecor owning the Habs is pretty much the top nightmare scenario. They represent cynical corporatism at its worst.

Martin Leclerc on RueFrontenac.com was pointing out that there is a lot of big corporations who have a solid interest in making sure this never happens. 1) Bell Canada, who would likely lose the naming rights of the Bell Center (for Centre Québécor? or probably they would sell it to a non-competing corporation like Pepsi or whoever) and the rights for content broadcasted to cells and mobiles 2) Whoever owns CTV (Bell?) who would lose the only valuable audience-drawing show on RDS, feeding a bunch of other shows as well. 3) Power Corporation would probably be not too pleased in having their daily sports section covering the activities of their competitor's cash cow and principal content feeding entity.

So there is probably a bunch of phone calls, alliances and lobbying taking place at the moment.

Oh gawd! The naysayers on this board just don't understand how bad this can get for us. We have it pretty darn good with Uncle George staying out of hockey decisions and our hockey operations department being staffed and led by competent hockey people. We could be in for some madness depending on who we get.

Man I hate so much the Quebecor-Celine Dion clan. All the back-pating they've given to each other in the last few years has been nauseating. It's been Celine Dion specials after one another on television and double-charging people for services.

It should be Serge Savard and his group.

I agree but I personally think Guy is fed up with this city in general,Every time he tries to do something positive for the city they turn him down like that Casino idea downtown which would have been great for the city and offer jobs to many people

I'm hopping the Savard group can get their hands on the Habs
