As much I hate him, this is absolutely necessary. He needs to start working hard and playing his butt off. No dipsy doodling through the neutral zone. Just use the speed you have and the good wrist shot and get to Theodore. If this was the regular season, Torts would probably have benched/scratched him given the fact that he hasn't done very much recently. GET GOING ZHERDEV! NO COASTING!

Gotta see this game starting the same way game 1 did.. The King is going to have to keep the Rangers in it for the first 10 mins or so.

NBC

Afternoon game

Rangers have to get a better forecheck going this game, and actually play a better all around game.

It starts with staying out of the box (or not giving the refs an excuse to make a really bad call, how you do that is beyond me) because the Capitals PP is really tough to contain, and even if they don't score, it jump starts their offense for the next 5 minutes.

Rangers have to look at this game as an opportunity to really cash in on the fact that they are the team coming in with momentum while the Capitals havent played playoff level hockey coming in. If Theodore starts, theyll be a TON of pressure on him to right the ship at home, and the Rangers have to make a cognizant effort to get on him early and often. Drive to the net and get shots off from wherever. If he stands on his head, so be it, but the Rangers have to be the aggressor tonight and MAKE him make the plays.

A little less backing in at the blueline would help from the defense. I know its extremely difficult to defend Ovechkin, but the very fact that he backs the defense in leads to a majority of their possession game because hes basically out there on that wing the entire game.

Another thing id like to see is the Rangers cheating a tad up the boards when Ovechkin goes for a shot. Countless times when he misses the net with that powerful shot, it caroms around the boards and to the opposite point. If they get there first, some odd man rushes could be a result in the Rangers favor.

Gotta keep the PP going, and isolate Antropov with that same fake/wrister he loves to do. Get more shots through from the point! we didnt see any of that last game.

Should eb a very interesting game today. The Rangers never play well on NBC in the afternoon, so i have a feeling where this one is headed, but for me getting just 1 in Washington was huge.

LETS GO RANGERS!!!!

With Drury (supposedly)back in the line-up, the lines will be solidified. I expect Zherdev will be more noticeable today now that he's consistently playing with Dubinsky and Korpikoski. And that's not to say he even played bad last game- he made a couple of very good defensive plays.

WASHINGTON----Quick hits

....D Brian Pothier will be in for the injured Jeff Schultz....Jose Theodore expected to start...Both coaches speaking at 11, swing by here for their comments later....

(UPDATE) Torts said Drury is a game-time decision after warmups....He said the Caps power play is not just about stopping Mike Green and then when I asked about his plans to practice at the Garden on Monday and Wednesday and keep the team in the city on those days, he ended the presser because there no more questions about today's game...The Rangers will practice in Westchester tomorrow and Thursday..

Understand Boudreau took a little shot at Torts' complaining about penalties in his remarks. Will get to that next..

The entire NHL is talking about the most offensive and dominating player in the league, and he deserves the attention.

But I have a feeling that after this series they are going to be talking about a goaltender who deserves a little more attention than he gets and it's going to be focused on how he shut down Ovechkin.

I have a really good feeling about Henrik right now, it's his time to shine and I think he is going to relish it.

Here's Caps coach Bruce Boudreau this AM: "They won the game and the only thing he did was cry about the two [areas] we won -- faceoffs and a penalty. He's playing the whole game, and it's pretty lame, quite frankly."

"He's talking about Nicky Backstrom, who was 48 percent. He was one of the worst centermen the first half of the year in faceoffs altogether. We went in and I talked to the league and the league said they are perfectly legal. So he's just crying right now. It's a dumb thing to cry about. We're told not to do this, but he's trying to play the gamesmanship and get the referees on their side. ...Give us a break."

He said there would be no lineup changes other than Pothier, so that means, Jose Theodore starts and Donald Brashear sits again...

The Caps and Pens always pull this kind of crap. They get some of the luckiest breaks as far as non calls and if for instance Torts says something about that wicked elbow to Sjostroms head they try and flip the coin and say they are the victim... **** them.
