Thank you Bob for making Montreal the softest team in the league. Thank you Bob for the organization being in basically the same spot it was when you took over.
does anyone even remember this team before gainey (savard to a certain extent)...seriously guys be a little more smart and use your noodles...
i am defending him because he built a team that can win and has helped restock our prospect pool (timmins mainly) but i like his pickups and his signings of most big players that are internally developed at good prices...one disappointing season and the roughest market causes a team to lynch everything around it...i wish the expos were still here and the alouetttes were larger...
yes they were a team on the bubble.
and yes currently they are a borderline playoff team.
Bob had a better starting point for prospects and team than Andre Savard and hasn't done much with it. Frankly, Andre Markov is the team and he was here prior to Bob taking over.
The minimal success BG has had goes directly to his predecessor.

honestly whats so good about this team.
this team has been horrible most of the year. Its getting killed in the playoffs and half the team is UFA's coming.
what makes this team and Bob Gainey's work here anything to write home about.

Keep dreaming, Gainey will stay the GM of this team for a couple of other years. He did a tremendous job building a decent team with the help of only one top pick (Price). The Pens needed 4 top picks to start competing, we needed one ... that's because of Gainey's patience and knowledge of how to build a hockey team out of nothing.
Tell me the name of 1 player that Gainey acquired and who did a major difference on the team.
Hi there, I don't know if Gainey returns next year, but I have a question for you all, smart *****, who seem to know everything.
Who steps in after Gainey? Who can do a better job than him?
Julien Brisebois?
Lol?
I'd rather keep Gainey than go back to Houle era.
Could Gainey have predicted that Plekanec, 69 points, would have 30 less? That Andrei (if I'm right) would have 41 points? That Higgins would score only 12 goals?
This team was good on paper. You can't blame him for that. The only thing you can whine about is him not moving at the deadline. Then again, I feel that his move is coming at the upcoming draft. If he doesn't do anything there, now you'll have the right to complain.

injuries all year and have key injuries now. lang and markov. Imagine lang as the second line center and having markov on d that improves the team a lot. i just wished we had to pick more canadians along the way

What scares me the most is that Lang was trashed immediately from the time Bob got him, oh how things have changed since he went down.
Thank him for what, good prospects?Isen't timmins job?
Thank him for what, put togheter the softest team in the Nhl
Thank him for what?Breezer return,Ribiero and theodore trades,Julien and carbo firing,Signing end of carreer overpaid vets?Improvisation managing?Even Houle could not do worst...
So if we follow your logic souvenir,we have to wait till the draft because you "feel"he will make a move? And we should keep him because we don't have anyone better in our organisation to replace him?
My GF is fat and ugly, but i don't know any girl better than her so i should find her pretty and keep her at all cost..come on
Call me and all the poster smart ass all you want,i don't have to wait till draft day to face the obvious, and probably gainey will be deep sleeping again,as usual.
I don't think Gainey is consistently 100% flawless... far from it... but then who is?
Tough loss tonight, though... but you can be sure that the
Flames lost by 1 goal twice, including OT. Flyers Can score. Caps Lost by one goal each game and outplayed their opponents. Blues Lost by one goal in both games. Blue Jackets Feels the same as the Canadiens. Afterall, they have only one more minus than them (Minus 7 in the series, Montreal is minus 6)
all feel the same way
I can never understand how such a historic and proud franchise could settle for these standards? Not being a troll, I just have always grown up with Montreal and their fans demanding so much more than this.

It seems like some people are just so thrilled that the Habs can manage to get their skates on the right feet so after that everything else is just bonus. Embarrassing to thank someone for a first round exit after an abysmal season and a mediocre 5 years.

Congratulations on listing excuses for the other team losses
The fact is that 29 clubs are going to have excuses to varying degrees at the end of all this.
I am as demanding as any fan... but realistic about the breaks... and happy we all get to see what the team is made of in the real season, even if its ugly.
I definitely wish the slumping players could break out and dig deeper. Its all in their hands now.
Anyway. Before this series started, I thought these 4 things
1. Price will have to be at his very best
2. Pleks, Laps, Lats, AKost will have to score
3. The series will have to be prolonged to give Markov time
4. I will not write the Habs off unless they get down 0 3
