No, it's not even close

Gagne >>> Prospal
Carter 09 >>>> Carter 08 (same for Hartnell, Lupul, Richards Parent and Coburn)
Giroux = > Umberger

Knuble and Briere are about the same

Carcillo/Nodl/Asham about the same as Upshall

Powe/Ross > Dowd/Thor

Timonen = best player both years
Carle vs Hatcher is a wash, Hatcher was physical but Carle is better defensively and at moving the puck

Alberts = Smith

Jones 09 < Jones 08

Marty, too early to tell. He hasn't played bad, he's played about the same as he did in the Pens series last year but clearly not stealing the series like he did against the Habs and Caps last year.

Not that they play any better. We still look terrible in our own zone most of the time.

Yeah Jones and Alberts and Carle for some reason love backhanding it out of the zone.

The big difference is DEFENSE. Last year's defense was much better (BEFORE Timo and Coburn were injured of course).

Last year Philly had the big bodies of Hatcher and Smith to clear the net and bang away.. allowing Timo and Coburn to manage the offensive side of the game.

Philly only lost to Pens last year cuz of Timo and Coburn injury.

This year instead of Hatcher and Smith they have Carle et al. Soft as butter.

I feel the defense has played pretty well the last two games. In game 2, they limited high quality shots nicely. The majority of Biron's 40+ saves came on low chance shots. In game 3, they played well and weathered the Pens offensive attack nicely. Parent has impressed me the most. He has handled Crosby well (even though he does have 5 points, which a couple are probably secondary assists). I also feel the Jones and Alberts aren't shooting themselves in the foot, and are able to get the puck out of the zone most of the time. They have been limiting their defensive turnovers coming out of the zone. And Coburn is leading the Playoffs in Time On Ice, and he has looked like the number 2 d-man of this team and perhaps after Timonen is gone, he can play that number 1 role.

He is HORRIBLE. No defensive mind like we saw when he first came over. ****, he chased the puck all the way behind the net at least 3 times during the game today. I was just sitting there yelling at him, WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING? PLAY DEFENSE!!!!!!!
