I just don't see JT living up to the hype while I see Magnus really flourishing in the NHL. Great skater, nice passer, vision, can snipe it... just the total package.

Is John Tavares really going to be that special, or is it simply a case of the great Canadian hype machine at work?
MSP could very well become a better player than JT in the nhl, but the risk that he will fail is alotlot bigger then it is with JT, noone really know how good MSP is, but you can see that he got alot of potential.

^ Because some sources call him Paajarvi Svensson, and some call him Svensson Paajarvi. Bottom line being, he's said it's fine either way and there's still "Paajarvi" on his jersey when there's a name at all.

So will it just stay as 'Paajarvi' when he jumps to the NHL next season?

Out of the current consensus top 5 picks, Paajarvi is viewed as the riskiest pick. Among scouts, there are questions about his finishing ability and his offensive instincts. That is why he is not ranked in the top 3 by most.

Of course, Paajarvi could easily end up being the best player in this draft if he puts it all together, but I would agree that Tavares, Hedman, Duchene, and Kane are all safer picks than him as far as the current consensus top 5 goes.

I think Toronto will probably have to trade up a couple of spots to get him.

Leafs won't trade up to get him. They'll go after Brayden Schenn and complete the brotherhood.

It's Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson people..

Not "Magnus Svensson-Paajärvi." Just to clear that up once and for all. At least according to his own club's homepage:

http://www.timraik.se/index.php?menu=3

cheers

To avoid all confusion in the future, I think it would be best if everybody just called him by a different name altogether; I choose Magnus Arvedson.

I have heard that he's just going to be "Magnus Paajarvi" when he comes to North America.

Also, Paajarvi is always what appears on the back of his jerseys.

I guess we'll find out at the draft. He is Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi because that is what he keeps being called by...everyone.

Well, you'd think Timrå's official website would have the name of its own players right? And for what it's worth, THN also made a similar clarification a couple of weeks ago, to the same effect.

However, it seems you have a point. The swedish ice hockey federation homepage lists him as "Svensson Pääjärvi". And then I came across this blog entry: http://www.hockeysverige.se/blogg_sh...1057&details=1

which goes into the details of the issue. According to this, the kid himself doesn't actually know what's the right order of his surnames. He was given surnames from both of his parents, but the order was never decided! And since he's not of age yet, he has never had to decide. A really strange situation - don't you have a public name registry in Sweden? Surely he has to be officially entered somewhere as either one or the other?!

Anyway, I give up - call him whatever you like.

cheers

Svensson is obviously Swedish but Pajaarvi has a Finish sound to it. What gives?
