Great news.

Glad to see him come back.

The last few years, we've signed veteran shutdown centers to act as the third guy. Bonk, Smolinski, Lang...

Next year, I vote it be Koivu. He's a great asset to the team, good in his own end and I think would have a great season with say Higgins and say Pacioretty on the 3rd line.

In fact...
#1: ? - ? - ?
#2: ? - ? - ?
#3: Higgins - Koivu - Pacioretty
#4: Latendresse - Lapierre - Kostopolous

Sounds about right to me

The players I want to stay (among our free agents)

Koivu
Kovalev
Schneider
Komisarek
Dandenault

Gone

Kostopoulos
Bouillon
Brisebois
Lang
Tanguay

Lang and Tangs didn't play themselves off the team, I just don't thinkw e can keep them. I think if we fill the holes with Ohlund, Weber, one of Bertuzzi/Knuble and pick up a legit top line center using some of our trade bait like Halak and Higgins. A nice veteran backup would be nice. I think somebody like Fernandez or Roloson would be ideal.

Heh, if one team had a bigger cluster**** of a year than we did, it was the Stars. People forget that they too were supposed to challenge for the conference title.

At least we made the PO's!!

The very reason a player is traded from one team to another is usually the lack of performance on his former team, but sometimes a change of scenery, a new coach and a new system can also help, there is definitely no denying Ribeiros talent level though.

That's not always the reason a player is traded. And not the case in Ribeiro's case.

That's cool, but this team needs a true number 1 center.

Exactly.

Take Ryder. We all knew he'd rebound with Julien, but we also all knew he'd played his way out of Montreal.

It happens. A shame it happened with Boston, but I don't think anyone was remotely surprised.

And those calling Gainey and idiot because Ryder helped bury us... well I am absolutely sure I saw some of you a year ago crying about how bad of a player he was.

See, a bright spot amongst all the misery.....I forgot about the Stars, and how good they were supposed to be, and speaking of goaltenders, poor Turco would have been crucified in Montreal this year, if he was the Habs goalie.

There's no reason for him to stay.

Wait! Hear me out. If he accepts a major pay decrease he can stay.

Good now lets find a number 1 center and put him on the second or third line.

Also give the C to Komisarek.

He mentioned earlier in the season that his home is here in Montreal and that he wants to come back. His statement tonight did follow a "but both sides have to agree on it" but that's the norm. He has to keep quiet to some degree and not give too much away. I have a good feeling he'll be back. I sure hope he will be. He's one of the only people on the team who plays with heart.

At a pay cut and as the 3rd line centre I say yes.

At the same money and in the top 2 lines I say no.

NOT in the eastern conference please! Altho they'd fit well with the Sens. The Leafs have Grabovski and the Bruins have Ryder so we should ensure all of our division rivals have at least one of our hab killing nemesis.

About Saku : I hope he's back but doesn't have to carry this team. The pressure needs to be split between more people than Kovalev, Koivu and Price.

I want Koivu, Tanguay and Kovy back... If one the three are not back, then... BG is better having a good surprise for us (i.e. Lecavalier, or someone like it).

Koivu is not a first line center. He was a borderline second line center in his last two seasons.

Getting rid of the Kostitsyns so easily would be a very big mistake... only trade them if they are offered something good for them, and not otherwise. None of this "I want the Kostitsyns off the roster by August 1!"... and making this clear to everyone else in the league so that they can be given away.

Man, come on. Lang and Plekanec are not first line centres in anyone's estimation. Even after last year no one would say that Plekanec is a first liner, especially considering the playoffs.

I want Koivu to comes back. Screw the haters. Sure, he isn't a #1 centre but its not his fault that the organization can't find better.

Really, now this is interesting. Took all of a game to change your mind, and no more drive Koivu out of town threads?
