Interesting UFAs that could help the team IYO..

Who do you think the Habs should go after in the off season? Heres the list..

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-centra...r=2009&pos=ALL

F.Beauchemin, Mike Cammalleri, Brian Gionta, Henrik & Daniel Sedin, Jaroslav Spacek, Steve Sullivan, John Madden, Kotalik, Antropov, Mikhail Samuelsson, Chris Neil, Ian Laperriere.. all look like interesting options..

I would take a chance on Steve Sullivan, the guy has had some serious back problems but I think he could be had for cheap and its worth a try, he is a great skater, great stickhandler, great person, good leader and speak french..

Francois Beauchemin has to be priority #1 on the UFA market, a complete defenseman that will help us alot..

Cammalleri, Gionta and Sullivan could seriously address our size problems.

Closer to July 1st is when the list will be worth perusing. Several of the guys on the list might just re-sign with their teams - there are already some thoughts that Gaborik could stay in Minnesota, same for the Sedins.

Bouwmeester and Hossa spring to mind but I'm definitely not holding my breath

Well even if we might still have Kosto, I will continue to ask for Laperrière, probably till I die. Then I would love Madden. Antropov, Gionta, Sullivan and Beauchemin as well. Probably not all of them but looking at them at the very least.

Probably not. But surely our talent problem and our dedication problem and our overall great hockey sense problem....Then get other players to address that size problem....

By the way, it's not like we have a whole lot of choice...

Beauchemin is overrated. He gets outmuscled off the puck pretty easily...he plays with one of Pronger/Niedermayer most of the time which makes him look pretty good. I'm on the west coast and watch a lot of Ducks games, and yeah he's a pretty good defenseman, but I sorely hope we don't throw 4-5 million at him, he is not worth that much.

He can make decent breakout passes so in that sense he could help our defensive core, but he won't be worth what he'll get on the open market. That money would be better spent on Komisarek. Beauchemin is nothing more than a decent 2nd pairing guy.

I think a guy like Erik Cole could help our team a lot. He's fast and can skate and would help our forecheck quite a bit. Problem with Cole is we can't expect him to be a savior. If you expect good energy and 25-30 goals, he'll be good but he wouldn't be an "impact" player.

Depending on many of our UFAs we resign, if we have the money, we should do everything we can to get Hossa. I wouldn't mind letting Kovalev and Schneider go and use that money to try and get Hossa.

kozlov or antropov could be good with kovy. neither is a long-term or major solution, but we might need a center if lang and koivu leave.

The chances that Gainey lands one of the top free agents are very slim, but do we really need 3rd - 4th line players? If so, who could be a good candidate? (Laperrière comes to mind)

Could be funny if Axelsson came and played on our 3rd line

UFA's won't solve our problem. Franzen might be nice. Otherwise, we should just keep stockpiling through the draft, unless we can get Lecav or Kovalchuk...which I doubt.

Didn't Franzen resign long term towards the end of the regular season?

I know this is a little weird but anyone ever consider something like this:

Sign the Sedins at 6mil/yr each.
Resign Kovalev, tanguay and koivu at discounts.
Trade Plek + D'ags + Whatever pick or so it takes for a guy like Jordan Staal.

Sedin-Sedin-Andrei
Tanguay-Koivu-Kovalev
Higgins-Staal-Sergei
Latendresse-Lappierre-Stewart/Laraque

Does that not sound insane?

Because this team isn't already too wimpy??

I like the Staal idea. Good luck with that though.

Whimpy means nothing. Detroit's top players aren't exactly power forwards but they know how to keep possesion of the puck.

Chris Neil would be a perfect fit here.

I'll edit my lines:

Sedin-Sedin-Andrei
Sergei-Koivu-Kovalev
Higgins-Staal-Neil
Latendresse-Lappierre-Stewart/Laraque

I dropped Tanguay because long term too much money in my proposal. Mind you, prob wouldn't work, I'd like to trade hammer and offer 6.25 to bouwmester and give a chance to weber/o'byrne and hope maybe even emelin will sign and compete for a spot.

Either way, this prob won't work unless everyone takes a paycut and the sedins aren't mega greedy I guess. But if they aren't looking for much, vancouver will sign them easy so just a dream.

Our defense could be the biggest assembly of 6&7th dmen in the league, if not the biggest. Markov is the only exception.

Komisarek is being used far too much for his abilities, as is Hamrlik, Gorges, Brisebois and Cube.
