What would it take for the Habs to get ahold of this prospect from the flyers? Big power forward with top line potential. We know the flyers are going to be goalie hunting this offseason which brings up Halak obviously.

To Philly: Halak + ?

To Montreal: JVR

I dont usually make proposals but the Flyers offense is unreal already, they don't have a need for another power forward with Carter, Richards, Hartnell yadda yadda. The Habs could also take on a salary dump in order to make the trade happen since they will undoubtedly have cap space after all these UFA's are ditched.

If JVR isn't the answer who should the Habs take a good long look at now?

Drugs. Maybe.

If Philly trades this guy away when they're overcomitted against the cap, they're idiots. Makes far more sense to ditch some high salary (Briere, I'm looking at you) and keep the cheap rookie.

What if Briere and JVR were coming our way?

Proposal.

To Montreal: Briere, JVR

To Philly: Halak, AKost, SKost

It's a possibility but I can't imagine the Flyers wouldn't rather deal a pick instead, and then you have the problem of saddling the Habs with a long-term contract that isn't worth it.

Then, I do think Briere has a NTC and I doubt he'll want to step into this mess anyway (in this case perhaps we should be thankful).

i cant imagine philly wanting Akost or Skost... do they look like they would belong in a philly uniform??...

I don't think JVR is going anywhere...and if he does, it will be a lot more than that....

The Breire idea is intriguing... but it does not help you guys, you need a BIG center... getting little Danny Breire won't help that (espically with his contract)

FWIW, looks like Philly has been working on building a non-euro group of forwards. So forget sending the Kostys there.

No need for big trade...there is a better, nasty JVR in draft. His name is Klassan!!

Yeah, let's trade our most stable goalie from this season, with our #2 goalie (under contract) then being Desjardins (though I like him, he needs to be the #1 in Hamilton this year). There aren't too many goalies who will accept a backup job in Montreal, that are capable of much criticism and playing at a high level, and getting snubbed. We are lucky to have Halak because there isn't much an RFA can do.

On another note, why don't we just take a power forward, who in my opinion, is going to be as good (if not better) than JVR in this draft, considering where we now draft. That player is from one of Timmins' favourite subjects, the Gophers very own, Zach Budish.

Why not JVR and Briere... we take some of their salary problem and a prospect. They get Halak (we'll eventually regret that) ++ .

I think in the future the only way to pluck a prospect will be to take a bad contract.

We don't have what it takes to get JVR, or Giroux. Forget it.

Cripes JVR was a #2 pick a couple of years ago. Teams don't just throw those away for no good reason.

You're probably right, and that's about the only thing that would make me consider touching that contract. Then you hope JVR pans out and Briere can stay healthy.

Big gamble.

It would be a mistake to take Briere. He is NOT that good of a player and he takes a lot of dumb penalties. Let him rot in Philly and let Philly have that cap space problem. Unless they include JVR or Giroux in the package, then MAYBE. But I think Gainey should try to go after Marian Hossa first if he reaches free agency. Or Ilya Kovalchuk, a much better play than Briere.

the Flyers would need to pony up a lot more than JVR for us to take on Briere's contract. The only way they rid themselves of that contract is by dumping it on a rebuilding bottom-feeder.
