Markov screwed; not nominated for Norris

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=419733

Chara, Green and Lidstrom are the three finalists. I figured they would but, but I don't know if I agree with them.

As far as individual performance, I can agree with those choices. However, as far as importance to their team, Markov is at the top of my list. I don't think that counts for the Norris though, but I'm not sure.

None of these guys are as important to their teams as Markov is to us. But whatever..

Only makes sense. Chara and Green were locks, 3rd was up for grabs and the NHL loves Lidstrom. Markov was clearly more valuable to his team, but oh well.

I was listening to CKAC this morning when they announced the 3 finalists for the Norris. Then a caller called JC Lajoie and asked why Markov isn't nominated. Then, Lajoie (who still thinks Markov isn't a #1D) said he could easily name 3 other D better than Markov this season. The called asked him to named them. He hesitated and said: "Heuu.. Dion Phaneuf" WHat a moron this fatass is.

This isn't the Hart Trophy. It doesn't matter that Markov was the Habs best player.

Screwed? Don't be biased, those 3 deserve it more than Markov. No matter how important he is to us.

Not Lidstrom, not this year...

I think this season was the tipping point in their respective careers where Markov has now become a more valuable player to his team.

Not that Lidstrom is not still Elite.

It never matters
all about points
MVP is 95% of the time the leading point scorer, when it shouldnt be allot of the time

Those choices are right. Markov was probably the 4th.

I hate how Lidstrom, although great is pretty much guaranteed a spot as a finalist for this every year.

Markov should be nominated for the Hart trophy if you look at the trophy's description.

Same as Joseph should have been for the Leafs in 99. In both his and Markov's case the team was flat out miserable without them. But that's something that appears to be too hard to judge for this trophy...

Nah, didn't get screwed.

If they split the awards up, Top Offensive D and Top Defense D, Markov would win neither. No reason he should win the Norris.

All I have to say is that Lidstrom had it easier then Markov. So what does that say? Who was better? Markov even had more points...

Agree, he is a great D-Man, but every year you can bet that he will be in the running for the Norris. I think it should be Chara, Green, Markov or Chara, Green, Weber. Either my vote goes to Chara

Screwed is not the right word.

In a normal year, he'd have been nominated. In some years, he may have won.

This year, there were three off the charts performances though.

Green scored 30 goals despite injury.

Chara - as we just saw - is a force in his own end and had good offensive numbers.

Lidstrom is Lidstrom.

And if this were the MVD (most valuable defenceman) than I'd agree with you. It isn't.

Anyone been able to find any kind of voting results determining who the top 3 nominees would be?

edit: or do all the 4th and 5th places votes I've read about in the past come as write-ins from the final balloting?

They release that after they release the winner.

The "nominees" are just the top three, afterall.

Awards:
Tough to argue with the picks this year. Even though I think Green is an average-at-best defenseman, you really can't ignore 30 goals. Only the 8th defenseman ever to do that.

Lots of people have suggested it, but the NHL should think about adding a Bobby Orr trophy for the best offensive defenseman, and keep the Norris for the best defensive defenseman. They have trophies for offensive and defensive forwards, so why not D-men?

Anyway, Markov will get his due in time, I'm sure of that.

LOL, I love Mike Green but he does NOT play defensively at all. He's practically a forward.

And he has really been exposed in this year's playoffs and even at least year's world championship's defensively.

The NHL gets too caught up with stats.

P.S. You do know Markov was leading our team in points for a long time. He also leads the team in ice-time and is only a -2. Quite impressive.
