Stevens' Comments about Matt Carle

Stevens said. "Matty Carle, for me, I think he's been a terrific pickup for our hockey team. For a guy who's not that big he's really competitive on the puck, he shows no fear. He has calm with the puck all the time, makes a lot of subtle little plays that allow you to get out of your end with possession. He's a big reason we've had success this year."

Personally, i think Carle has played well in the playoffs. Of course he makes mistakes, as all offensive minded defensemen in his mold that are not elite make mistakes.

It's funny because i think opinions on Carle are very evenly divided amongst Flyers fans. I think he's played very well in the last 2 games as well.

I have always been a fan of Carle. I think his biggest knock is that he plays with Coburn, who also jumps in on the rush. Carle needs a stay at home d-man to be most effective.

Sometimes I admit I yell at the tv (or him when I'm at the Wach) to get back on the blueline, but he plays well, and I think he is worth more the Randy Jones, who has made some nice plays in the playoffs (as well as some real bad ones).

I gotta admit Carle has really grown on me recently. I think if he was paired with Parent and Coburn was back with Kimmo everyone would look better

Agreed. The D has just picked it up really well. I havent seen Alberts skate this hard in the corners in well ever.

i would like to see the D move the puck quicker out the zone to catch the pens flat footed. Alberts D has been good, but puck movement is still an issue.

I think Parent has been doing little things wrong or something, because I keep hearing about Timonen making up for him.

I think we should leave the pairings the way they are for now, they obviously found a nice rhythm.

I have almost always defended Carle, so his recent play makes me happy!

It's the playoffs. They are trying harder. It's not as much of a fluke as it is that they need to work harder all season.

I think Carle has looked great, and have liked the move from the beginning.

Jones is terrible, Id rather have Sbisa out there over him.

Exactly.

I haven't minded taken my lumps for Carle, but it annoys me that people who are nowhere to be found when I defend him always want to come out of the woodwork when he does well.

I've liked Carle since we got him. Sure, I've been pissed off at him. But then I see Jones turn it over(6x) and I'm like wait, Carle isn't that bad.

I didn't see the game last night. Were the defensive pairings the same last night as in pervious games? I swore I've seen Jones with Kimmo

Parent still makes too many mistakes himself. He needs probably half of next year before he's ready to be give the job of defensive responsibility on the 2nd pairing. In the future, once Parent has had more time to develope, hell yeah that's our best setup, but no right now. Coburn right now is better defensively. Timonen is near GOD like for us on the blue line but beyone that we have 3 2nd pairing guys right now. We have to put our 2 best together and have them running the 2nd pairing. Right now that pairing is Coburn and Carle.

He was very, very good last night. He was noticeable all over the ice. He makes his mistakes, but he's 24 years old, as is Coburn, and we're going to have to remember to be patient and let them develop fully.

Agreed. I think people forget that, he is still in development. I know he's contract kinda sucks blow, but at least we didn't give him the contract

When people moan about our defense, I think they tend to forget that we have 3 defensmen under the age of 25 in our top 4.

I think carle gets in trouble sometimes by trying to do too much or make the lower% play instead of the safe play. He'll take a hit to make a play and comes up with the puck in the corners alot. I'll take that over jones who apparently can only pass the puck on his backhand, and has the wrist strength of the 10yr old girl. He's weaker on the puck than briere on a bad day.

now your just jones hating. Sbisa would be a disaster waiting to happen and chemistry is the main reason.

Jones has been a Crosby shut down guy. One of his few positives.

I think it is not umcommon for younger players to lose focus over the long, long haul of an 82 games season. There are few veterans, even, who have it cranked up all game every game for seven months. It's a grind, physically AND mentally.
