bah i typed a huge long one... lost it when my cat stepped on keyboard.

let go:
kovy, lang (age), the cube and komi (unless we could sign him cheap enough to fit him)

trade:
kost. bros, plec and halak plus a few prospects

sign/trade for:
Lecavalier, gaborik, first line def, Beauchemin, vet Goalie

if we could make the Lecavalier trade, might be able to sign some decent UFA'S.

forward-

Tanguay - Lecavalier - D'Agostini
Pacioretty - koviu - gaborik (would put up huge points in mtl)
Higgins - Metropolit - Dandenault
Latendresse - Lapierre - Kostopoulos

Stewart - Chipchura - Laraque

defense-

Markov - Schneider/jaybo/Hannan/Gilbert/ohlund or komi
Hamrlik - Georges
Beauchemin - Weber (both can take pp time)

O'Byrne, Carle (dandy back here when we need him)

Price
vet G

defense isnt great without bringing in that stud, but we do have endless prospects, this would be right up against the cap, but could possibly all be fit with some decent signings.

it wouldn't overwhelmingly terrify the rest of the league on paper, but it would be a fast, skilled team that could put up big points from two lines, with a good core of bottom six forwards. beauchemin and weber could give us the point shots options we need on the pp.

As interesting as this lineup might be, not sure how it could be fit under the cap.

As someone who is not a Habs fan, I still find it interesting to wonder what the Habs will do with all their UFA's and all the room they will have, so I took a shot at a line up that I thought would be a winner.
I was not totally mindful of the cap because I really do not know what these players would sign for, but I tried to be as realistic as I could be.

Here goes nothing:

Tanguay Cammalleri Hossa
Higgins Koivu Latendresse
Kostitsyn Plekanec Grier
Stewart Lapierre Kostopoulus
Laraque

Markov Havelid
Hamrlik Beauchemin
Jorges O'Byrne
Hnidy

Price
Halak

4 solid lines, solid D, and the same goaltenders. What do you guys think?

Darren Langdon-Joe Juneau-Jason Ward

Sheldon Souray - Patrice Brisebois
Craig Rivet - Stephane Quintal

Mathieu Garon

Maybe callup Chris Higgins and Thomas Plekanec from the AHL to play a game or two.

This team easily is better then the team we iced last season.

obviously you couldn't sign gaborik and jaybo at full rate and have it fit, but if the defenseman coming in was no more than 5 mil and koviu (10mil over 3 years) and tanguay (18mil over 4 years) would have to come in a little bit cheaper. veteran goalie would need to be very inexpensive

this would be right near the cap like i said, so it would be a real juggle to make it fit. the big problem is that we would be saddled with a huge amount of salary if it doesn't work out we would be screwed for a few years.

swap Latendresse and D'agostini, insert Perezhogin and Chipchura in the line-up, let Metropolit go and scratch Laraque.. Thats about the line-up I would have too if we fail to get a star center like Lecavalier.. I would let Maxwell and Desharnais fight for the second line center spot.. Its Lecavalier and a rebuild ala Flyers or mediocrety for the next 2-3 years, getting some high draft picks.. I cant see Gainey signing some old legs to fill some spots, our kids have to develop..
