Mtl media admitted to be seen by NHL players as "une Joke"/Gong Show/Animals

Heard that on CKAC this morning..

Quote:

At least, some of them admit it..

Players are right. Media here has become a joke. I mean if I saw Demers crying on television about the "Canadiens Darkest Day" I'd probably be laughing too.

+1

I've always said, not here of course, that the NHL should include taxes in their concept of parity, and that either teams should be able to spend up to a salary cap after taxes are removed, or that the NHLPA should distribute taxes across all players.

It is a distinct disadvantage that the HABS have the highest taxes in the league.

AND, the media is crazy ... I found it funny how they all acted like insecure lovers after the end of the season asking all the fans if they intended to return, and if the media played in to their decision.

Well what do you want the media to do? They said it themselves in the article: they talk about the Canadiens all year round because it sells newspapers and gets people in front of their TV. And why does it sell newspapers? Because of the fans' desire for news and gossip about the team. For the media to become comparable to other markets, we would have to have less fans. That doesn't sound like it's going to happen...

People here are always whining about the media, but in fact it's us, the fans, that are the problem! If you owned the Journal de Montréal, would you ever say "hey we're not talking about the Canadiens today, let's give them a break", if you knew you'd sell less newspapers that day?

I read the story, I was just using the Habs Darkest Day as an example of the idiocy of the media here.

Euh.. Renaud Lavoie IS the one talking during the show.. He's from RDS.

Quote:

Ya know RDS, CKAC, Team 990 should all be spoken to by Bob or something and warned that they are walking on thin ice from being banished for a whole season from the locker room. The Media is a joke, and if need be the Team can forbid the entry of said journalists.

Not really but he's a hypocrite, he feeds on all this, now he's just kissing the players' ***** to benefit from it later on and get special treatment from them.

Personally if I was the owner of this team I would have banned some members of the media from the canadiens locker room a long time ago. Of course the media would scream at the injustices that I would have created. I wouldn't care, as long as my players feel good.

It's not that easy. There are fines to pay to the NHL for such things.

Doesn't matter. The media has a responsibility. In general, the press has an influencial effect on people. The majority will always eat up whatever the press says...Which is why journalistic ethics exist and they SHOULD abide by a code of responsibility. But here, they don't.

First step is admitting you have a problem...thing is all of them have to admit it. I don't see anything changing anytime soon unless the team management steps in and limits access to the team to media that go overboard.

I would think that CTV who owns TSN and RDS would do more about the sorry state of one of its stations? Anybody want to do some research about who at CTV is in charge of RDS?
