Thornton To The Sabres

What do you think it would take to get him, I think the real only untouchable would be Miller; Would have to add another good player on the SJ side for Vanek but for the most part hed have to be "untouchable" unless a about average player is added

What you think?

Roy, Myers, Ennis, 1st probably gets me to agree. Given I am firmly in the keep the team together group this is probably overpayment. For the record I would prefer someone a bit bigger than Ennis, given that our top 6 would be pretty small/soft without Joe.

Also, Enroth would be of interest, since the Sharks lack an elite goalie prospect.

lol, huge overpayment from BUF if u ask me. Roy has a solid production and a very sweet contract. He won't go anywhere. Myers will be our future franchise defender, we would be absolutely dump if we would trade him. And Ennis is our best offensive prospect.

Counter offer:

Connolly, Enroth, Stafford, 1st rounder 09

Connolly has no value in my eyes until he can prove to be healthy. The other three assets are very valuable but not worth Thornton. Like I said, in my eyes you need to overpay. Einnis may be a bit much but I think Roy, Myers, 1st+ is probably necessary. You could maybe substitute Enroth for Myers but I don't know if Doug would do it.

Ok, and how many defensemen will stay then in Buffallo next year?
We can't trade Rivet AND Myers.

Ok, @ slapshot723 and mat trick, what do you say, if I add 2010 first onto my original offer?

That would be: Connolly, Enroth, Stafford, 1st rounder 09 AND 10

Or I've another offer for you:

To SJ: Gaustad, Enroth, Ennis, Stafford

To Buf: Thornton, late pick

I think a d-man has to be coming back to the Sharks. I was just thinking out of my ass I didn't really consider either team

I would think his value is lower than when he was traded from boston. I think miller, vanek, gaustad, rivet, kaleta and meyers are not going anywhere any time soon.

The Sharks needs:

Prospects:
Centers are fine so long as they keep two of Pavelski, Marleau, and Thornton with youth in Couture, Daniels, and Zalewski.

D-men are okay with Moore, Joslin, Demers, Demers, and Braun having legit nhl shots, and Petrecki as a potential #3 or 4. No guaranteed top 4 PMD.

Goalies are okay as Sateri, Greiss, Sexsmith, Dakers, and Stalock are solid but a legit nhl ready prospect like Enroth is way ahead of them.

Wingers- are ugly. Lukas Kaspar (who cleared waivers) leads the pack if you exclude McGinn.

Current line-up: The top 6 F and top 4 d-men will again be among the top in the league, and Evgeni Nabokov is among the league's top goalies (albeit a bit overrated). McGinn and Mitchell make up part of a very solid bottom 6, but they still need more. I would love Gaustad to center the McGinn and Mitchell.

Really this team needs future replacements for Boyle, Nabokov, Blake in the next 2-5 years and needs to be replace any one else they move.

Your above deal solves three needs (third line center, youth winger depth, and the elite goalie prospect not to mention some size) but I am not sure it is worth trading Joe for.

Leaves them with

Michalek-Marleau-Setoguchi
Clowe-Pavelski-Stafford
McGinn-Gaustad-Mitchell

Boyle-Lukowich
Blake-Vlasic
Murray-Ehrhoff

Nabby
Enroth

Sharks gain about 2.5 million in cap space. If you changed Einnis to Myers and added a 2nd from San Jose, or added your 1st I think I would do it.

What about Myers and Enroth, and then maybe ship Nabokov somewhere?

I want no part of Joe Thornton honestly. I'd be unlikely to ever want to move Myers for anything (realistic)

I'd trade one of Roy/Pominville and one of Sekera/Butler and a pick. No way I deal Enroth or Myers in any deal for Thornton. Since that's who the Sharks would want, I don't want Thornton.

Sorry, not interested in Big Joe these days. I used to be a big fan of his, but he really turned me off this year. The Sabres desperately need to add some winners. That's not Joe.

Also, the price for Myers right now is ridiculously high.

Gotta say that I'm interested in Joe as a Sabres fan - he's not what we need on team, so all of the offers involving Myers / Enroth are making me cringe a bit. I know he's worth that to some teams EASILY, just don't feel the Sabres are one of them.

Buffalo needs mentally tough winning types. I know Joe is an awesome player, but his lackluster playoff performances are enough to deter me.

Myers is not going anywhere. He's looking to be a franchise defenseman for the Sabres, and it looks like he could end up being better than Chara.
