- Braydon Coburn to join Team Canada at the IIHF WHC.

Just read this and thought I'd share. Nice to see him still want to play depsite the disapointing loss to the Penguins.

Adding two new players in the middle of the tournament? That'll put them in quite the pickle.

I hope they pair them together. That would be a sweet D tandem.

It is nice to see. Hopefully he can pick his game up after a disappointing season for him and the team. I felt his game kind of leveled off this year.

Coburn was great towards the end of the year and looked good in the playoffs

Does anyone see Coburn as our number one dman once timonen is gone, or not performing to his normal standards?

That may be your opinion. However he did not play great at all and looked tentative at times. However I do like him and hope it is just a bump in the road and chalk it up to a learning experience.

Coby is my favorite Flyer, some of you know I got the opportunity to coach with him last summer at Ed Snider Youth Hockey's summer camp... he's a great guy. I wish him a ton of luck representing his home country.

As to projecting on his skill, he started off slow and improved a ton towards the end of the season. Look back to the 2nd to last rangers game, he had like 8 perfect hipchecks and since then has been a great defenseman. I still argue to this day that he has one of the top 5 passes out of the zone (and that Richards wouldnt have half of his short handed goals if it wasn't for Braydon's phenomenal passing!)

But I'm biased because I love him.

If you come up with a list of top 10 defensemen in the league today youll notice the bulk are over 30. Give Coburn that much time and well have a kick ass defenseman.

You should double check your stats bud. Also, his "suspension" was off of a marginal hit to the head that is an AUTOMATIC 1 game suspension in the IIHF. Wake up. This surely cant be the first time youve watched international hockey. The strictness of the IIHF is well documented. If they watched Dan Carcillo play he would be suspended all the time. In fact if IIHF rules were in place, they would have a heyday in an average NHL playoff game. Fact is, he is there and Carcillo isnt, but you missed the point I suppose.

At the time of the suspension, I believe he had zero points. Here nor there, it was a 'ha-ha'.

Marginal hit in the NHL, not a marginal hit in the IIHF. It was a suspendable hit, period. Again, it was a 'ha-ha'.

Obviously Carcillo isn't there, is ANYBODY surprised??? Give your head a shake.

You need to get your sarcasm detector checked.

Back on topic...

TSN just interviewed Coburn (#55), he's playing 3rd pairing with Vlasic against Norway.

Also of note. Thoreson is playing for Norway.

My friend's dad took a trip to Switzerland not knowing the WHC's were going on. He was in town for 7 days. He actually met Braydon Coburn, but, interestingly enough, in Philadelphia International, just before Coburn's limo came.

Cobie hasnt had the season he had last year, but than again he was teamed up with Matt Carle this season for a time, who has "limited" defensive skills... but i see Cobie being a Top 10 Dman in the league in the next years to come, not being biased for being a Flyer or my FP... but he has great size great skating ability and can score given the right circumstances... (hatcher + Kimo - 15 yrs = Cobie)
