Fail.
Wow, a lot of drama in this post. How bout we see how he does when he's completely healthy and not playing on one leg.

The "injury" was only serious enough to push his suck level from 8.5 to 10. The kid is fringe NHL defenseman at best.

JXC, what do you see in this guy?

Lol, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that one.

Well, lets try to find some possitives in this one guys. I'll go first and I have 2 things I can think of. First, maybe he'll be out for at least half the season again next year too Second, with it likely that we are stuck with him for all of next year we will at least have the money to give Coburn and Parent their raises after next year. Like I've said before, Jones is out so that + 2.75 mil in cap space; Coburn goes from 1.3 mil to 2.75 mil, -1.45 mil and a net + 1.3 mil in cap space; Parent goes from 850k to 1.3 mil, -450k and a net + 850k in cap space; Marshall takes Jones spot on the bottom pairing, -850k for a net zero dollar change in cap hit.
What you guys didn't know was that when Holmgren signed Jones to a $2.7m deal he was really setting the marker at how much he's allowed to spend on Coburn and Parent. That way he wouldn't overpay them...like he paid Jones...****

Yeah JXC, answer this. I'm curious as to what you like about him. Why he is your favorite player on the team.

You realize he's been healthy in his career before, right?

Yes, did you watch him play in the 2008 playoffs?

EDIT: The last time he was healthy?

Are you really going to use the Playoffs of Good Fortune as the basis for your support for Jones?

Before this gets into a large scale argument, I hope you realize a lot of problems have come up from Jones's extension.

?

You brought it up. That's the last time he was healthy. And he played well.

That can be quite pleasing as well.
  • Like Mike Richards getting totally outplayed, shredded in fact, by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
  • And Jeff Carter potting just one goal in six playoff games.
  • And Kimmo Timonen, 1 assist and -3 in six games.
  • And then there's Danny Briere...
Sometimes watching the High and Mighty go boom boom can be enjoyable.

But I digress - we need to focus on how bad Dan Carcillo and Randy Jones are...

Everyone played well in the 08 playoffs. Things happened to be going right for the team then, but it wasn't because Randy Jones upped his play to a new level.

But you do realize his contract has caused quite a few problems, right?

You take pleasure when the stars on the Flyers fail? I know you like to be a contrarian, but that's insane. As much as I hate Dan Carcillo, I hope he brings something positive to the table every game. I can't imagine being happy that the Flyers bowed out to the Pens for the second straight year.

I was so angry that, even now, my girlfriend cringes if anyone brings up the topic of the Flyers/Pens.

I was against having Jones on this team even before he signed that deal, Imagine how I felt about the guy after... (after the comments he said about not caring where he plays, made it even worst.)
Haha that's why I said "Before he's really damaged goods." Notice the word really, as in can't stand up on his skates anymore. Oh wait.....

So Randy Jones is the sole reason we are in Cap Hell right now?

It takes the spotlight off of his main squeeze, Jones.

I was being facetious. It wasn't pleasurable for me at all.

I was just remarking that laying blame on Jones and Carcillo makes no sense when Carter, Richards, and Timonen all sucked against the Pens.

Ok I'm not trying to jump in on this argument, but the point he made was pretty good. If we had waived Jones, we probably could've saved ourselves from losing Ossi, Metro, and Upshall. Any one of those players is better than a healthy Jones.

By the way you listed the information of the underperforming stars, I assumed there was no sarcasm. It was too detailed for me to believe you weren't speaking from the heart.

I get what he was saying, but there were a number of other ways to avoid losing those players.

It's all good.

But in reality, I think we should all find the underperformance of Richards, Carter, and Timonen to be far more disturbing and predictive of future fail than whatever Randy Jones did poorly in the series.

Those guys are supposed to carry the team.

I agree with you, but one little move could have made this a much a better team. Instead, now we're stuck with the albatross that is Jones' contract and bad hips around our neck.
