A lot of Isles fans are cool with DiPietro's contract and don't want to "dump" it. And they certainly are not cool with Burke getting that 1st pick. Nor would they want Toskala and already have plenty of picks.
Hilarious avatar, but its not going to stop the massive flaming coming your way.
I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.
Both comments are right, though I suspect Stephen is trying to be an ass in the process.
Trade wouldn't be done from either sides.
Well, reality is often painful.
Dipeitro is owed a boatload of money, something to the tune of $50 million +, is chronically injured and will probably not be a useful long term investment for any sane NHL franchise. Plus his contract is toxic to a cap sensititive team. And as rich as MLSE are, I can't see them paying a guy $50 million + for over a decade to play in the AHL, because that would destroy Dipietro's career (if he can play).
Just based on the money factor alone, the first overall pick is probably not enough of an incentive for anybody to take on that kind of a burden.
Seriously, getting the first overall for Toronto would be equally crippling as it would be beneficial. The Isles on the other hand would be absolved of the worst contract in NHL history just like that.

As an Isles fan I'm not at the point yet where I've lost all hope in DiPietro staying healthy, so I definately pass on this deal, but if he has any injury issues next year I'd probably look into a trade like this. We are nowhere near the cap so the need to trade DP right now is very, very small.
If anything they will wait till A) DP has another long injury absence, B) They are up against the cap, C) They have a solid goaltending backup/prospect waiting in the wings, and D) They don't have the 1st overall pick.

Way I look at it, 4.5M is the price of a middle of the road starting goalie. The idea that Dipietro career is washed up at this point is ridiculous, that contract still has a good chance to work out fairly well for the Islanders.
Leafs probably wouldn't take Dipietro if they threw in the first overall. That contract's worth an NHL franchise!
you're kidding right? when he's healthy he's one of the best in the league, plus you get tavares for an underachieving goalie and a few picks. this is laughable. if snow ever did this he would be done
Lets see....
1) DP gets healthy and the contract becomes average to good for the team or
2) DP doesn't get healthy, is forced to retire in a few years, and his contract comes off the cap and is partially paid for through insurance.
So, to get out of this situation, the Isles give up the #1 pick?

Seriously, it may have been 15 years at 4.5 million but like you said it still could work out. The yearly pay is
So next year is his biggest year for the team, to see if he can stay healthy for the season. Also, the fact players drafted DP's years are hitting FA, and the contract is not that bad.
I would rather have DP 15 years over Toskala anyday of the week. As well as 75% of the goalies but if he cannot play after next year. Also, if he can't play insurance covers his contract.
To Isles fans, DP's contract is not that bad and you really will never see anyone trying to put him in trades and not because of the years. We know he has alot of potential, more than most NHL goalies. The injuries are the his downfall and next year will be a good idea on him for the future.
ummm flamer you might want to try and watch hockey before you post something rediculous as that. Im hoping yo were drunk when you did this but even at that WOW this might be the worst trade proposial I have ever seen on here. I dont know if im impressed by this offer for how bad it is or how pissed I am for spending time to comment on this.
