Veilleux, others signed...

09/24/04 - The American Hockey League’s Houston Aeros have signed centers Dan Cavanaugh (pictured) and Mark Cullen, left wings Stephane Veilleux, Christoph Brandner and Jordan Krestanovich, right wings Kirby Law, Jason Beckett and Kyle Wanvig and defenseman Ray Giroux, general manager Tom Lynn announced Friday. The Aeros will hit the ice Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sugar Land Aerodrome to open 2004 Training Camp.

Six of the signees – Veilleux, Brandner, Krestanovich, Law, Wanvig and Giroux – have NHL experience, and the Aeros roster now has 10 players who have advanced to the NHL. It also includes nine of the Minnesota Wild’s top 10 prospects, as ranked by The Hockey News, and two of Dallas’ top 10 prospects. The Aeros have two No. 1 draft picks in camp in Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mikko Koivu, Minnesota’s top prospect.

My question is, who is on the way out? This really tightens up the roster...

Goalies:
Josh Harding (backup/starter)
Kyle Kettles (ECHL/Louisiana)
Mike Smith (starter/backup)

Defense:
Dan Boesner (Louisiana)
Maxime Fortunus
Ray Giroux
Chris Heid
Zbynek Michalek
Todd Reirden
Eric Reitz
Ryan Stokes
Brent Burns (???)

Offense:
PM Bouchard
Marc Cavosie
Mark Cullen
Marius Holtet
Mikko Koivu
Rickard Wallin
Mike Kompon
David Bararuk
Derek Boogaard
Christoph Brandner
Bill Kinkel
Jordan Krestanovich
Mark Rooneem
Stephane Veilleux
Jason Beckett
Dan Cavanaugh
Matt Foy
Kirby Law
Junior Lessard
Kyle Wanvig

We're 7 over the limit if you can have a 23 man roster...

Nice deal for the fans in Houston, I'd say!

(oh, and I'm sure they mean first round draft picks rather than #1 draft picks... Two #1's.. how nice it would be.)

Very good day for the Aeros indeed. Its good to see Veilluex signed and going to Houston, Any place where we can find the amount he signed for? I wonder if we bumped up the offer or Steph just decided it was better to play in Houston with his teammates then over in Russia. So maybe the Aeros will be a decent team this year. Should they put Wallin, Wanvig and Veilluex back together? and then you have Bouchard, Foy and Lessard or they could move PMB from center to wing and get Mikko in the top 2 lines.

Wow, that team might not be too bad to watch...too bad there's no chance for us Minnesotan's...it would be nice if some major network(s) could get something going on TV. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer for the panic to settle in.

Don't complain. Otherwise I'll be forced to remind you how happy I'd be if I had to worry about SOMEONE going down to Houston.

True...

But I'm wondering whose development is going to be cut short?

Looking at that list, there are a # of players that are the age of 20 or so. I would guess a few of those guys and some of the tryouts will be let go. When does the season start?
