But seriously, I think BÅG has done some good work once again with the material at his disposal. I can't see how playing for a medal with this Swedish roster could be considered anything but at great success.

It seems like regardless of personnel Sweden is always among the top-4 at the end of the day.

I can't believe you guys are calling for BÅG's head. With him at the helm Sweden has been a consistently dominant force in international hockey. Not to mention his interviews are gold. Yet now he should be sacked because Sweden will finish behind Canada and Russia? Give me a break.

This is the reason why the Sens fans are so hard on them.

Even Barry Trotz and Lindy Ruff realize how defensively inept they are! They didn't even play in the last few minutes because they couldn't trust them to hold the lead. They played as many minutes as freakin' Colby Armstrong today because of it. I thought Trotz could coach some defensive sense into them as he is known in Nashville for it, but I guess not

Derek Roy was liberated from their line! And look, he played well with players who can actually win battles!

P.S. Am I the only one who sees how brutal they look!? Guys like Mike Fisher were much more noticeable (even though he has a more limited upside).
OMG , they were not brutal, they were fine, they are better with Doan actually than with Roy, they were consistently in the offensive zone except for a few blemishes and at the end of the game, Canada was more caught up in their own end cause Sweden was playing desperate hockey

heatley had a much better defensive game today

though you write this SAME things in EVERY game day thread

yes Fisher is more noticeable cause he is the 3rd line checker, that is what they do they create energy, but notice how that line rarely scores?

The reason why I write the "same things" in every Canada game thread is because it's the TRUTH!!! Now if only Spezza and Healtey can realize their many weaknesses and improve, then you can bet the Canadian fans would harp less on them. Surely, they must have recognized how FEWER ICE TIME they have been given as the games become more important and close. This is a problem with their game! The fact that they don't play ANY time on the PK won't sit well with the Canadian management committee because they are essentially one-trick ponies.

The Ottawa fans b*tched and moaned about how brutal Redden was. Most other people speculated it was just Canadian fans 'exaggerating' and that he'd be rejuvenated playing elsewhere. Guess what: we were right! He was still brutal in New York and now they're stuck with him! Yikes.

Spezza and Heatley will soon be the "go-to" guys without Alfie around. That's why I expect more out of them. Other players have improved dramatically in short time spans, whereas Spezza and Heatley's level has levelled off. They're still making the same mistakes years ago. Now if only they had the same drive and heart as someone like Zach Parise, they'd be DOMINANT players. Too bad I can't give them a heart transplant.

P.S. However, go Marty St.Louis! He has worked his butt off and to me, really cemented his place on the Olympic team 2010 as long as he continues to have a good year next year.

In fact:

I hope Spezza/Heatley score a hat trick in the gold medal game just to prove me and the other doubters wrong. But there's a 96% chance that they won't be a factor in the gold medal game.

Well, it's not so hard to face a loss when it's against a better team as today. Canada did crash the net while we as usual played along the boards and didn't create much at all.

So congratulations Canada!

really cause Spezza and Heatley have already played a very important role in the offensive side of the game, it seems you are just in denial and want to believe that Alfie carries them there is a reason why they were both top 2 picks, they dont need to score a hat trick to be impressive, they just need to get the job done and win Gold. Today they were playing a better two way game especially Heatley and he also got an assist on Roy PP goal

They are a HUGE reason why our PP is impressive

Each player on this team has a role, and Heatley and Spezza's is to produce offensively AND to be atleast decent in their own zone, i found today they played a solid game. you also have to realize at this point in the tournament it is VERY hard to even get close to a hattrick, this isnt some sad faced team we are facing, this is Russia/Sweden who actually know how to play defensively AND offensively at a high level.

I expect Sunday's game to be very close

Was anyone impressed by Scottie Upshall!? The guy has no finish but his two-way game and work ethic are impeccable. He is relentless on the puck.

A rather strange game. Sweden had most of the play, controlled the puck but lacked in the finishing. When Canada got an excellent chance to score, then they did just that. I'm amazed at how Sweden could have so many chances yet end up with so little.

The best team won, I think Canada will get the gold. They have that killer instinct when they see a legitimate chance to score. It will be 2 very different styles meeting at the final.

Before 2-0 i think we had something going but the lack off a pure goal scorer was obvious, at the time our players tried to get control of the puck - it was already gone. Way tooooo slow with most moves. After 3-0 I think Canada just controlled the game, felt like they didn't have to put any particularly big effort to pull it off.

I'm kinda satisfied that we get to play a bronze medal game anyways with this team, think both the Czechs and Fins had better material. I also think Gustavsson proved himself that he's a goalie of international standard. Weinhandl came a step closer to the Olympic roster, aswell as Oduya.

I thought Sweden had some good chances, but most of them were weak and easy to stop; there were many far away shots on goal by Sweden. I thought that Canada created much better chances, but as always when it leads by 2 goals or more, Canada always slows down.

He did alright. I think he was a bit startled by the intensity around the net that the Canadians showed. The USA has some of that but not as much. For a european and especially a swedish goalie I think that takes some time getting used to. He couldn't do much about the goals but didn't have his best game on either. Either way Canada would have won.

I do not agree with the swedish posters that thinks Sweden had most of the play in this game. Canada shut us down very easily, they had the neutral zone and kept Sweden on the outside in their zone pretty well all night. Just because Sweden had a bit of puck possession and a few weak shots at Rolosons chest doesn't mean they created enough chances to score more than they did.

Like i said...

Gratz to Canada. Strange enough, i weren't angry about this game. This is probably the only loss to Canada i haven't felt angry about. Still, they got their killer instinct infront of the net - the first goal illustrate the difference, when Gustavsson usually move to the other post in the SEL, he is right and will save. But with St Louis and Kanada, it is different!

Still, great of BÅG to have taken this pathetic excuse of a team to the semis yet again.

Either Detroit or Vancouver needs to be knocked out of the playoffs if we ever wan't to win a WHC. Maybe playmakers like Nylander and Bäckström could have forced this team through, but thats about it.

Good luck Canada in the finals!

I think it would have been much different if Sweden had Alfie, Zetts, Sundin, the Sedins or even Forsberg (probably missing some). They had few of their top end guys and I don't think you can blame the coach for doing well with what he had.

For once the refs really made a rather fair game of it.

No excuses, we were to weak to really get infront of the goal creating traffic.
