Burns played D in junior, then switched to wing in his final season. Drafted as a winger, played on the wing his first year with the Wild, until Lemaire put him back on D at the tail end of the season. Next season (lockout) he played all year on D in Houston. The rest is history.

Weird. On most other players they have the draft position on hockeydb....

just wondering, I was looking back at the 2000 draft and I didn't see and I didn't see Nick Schultz's name on the CSS list. Was it only a mistake by them or did he completely go under the radar until the Wild picked him?

Zero chance. At least with the Wild. Sounds like he isn't even ECHL quality. Too bad. I remember when I read his scouting report when we drafted him back in '04 that we may have at least found a quality winger for our Houston farm team. Pretty forgettable draft all around.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...ft_evaluation/

Julien Sprunger, RW – 4th round, 117th overall -- Fribourg-Gotteron, Swiss-A
NHL Games: 0
Status: Bust
Standing 6’4 and with plenty of raw offensive potential, Sprunger was considered by some to be a potential steal in the 2004 draft. Unfortunately one of the more promising Swiss prospects in recent memory appears destined to play out his career in the Swiss league. Despite improved offensive production since Draft Day resulting in Sprunger scoring at roughly a point-per-game pace the past two seasons, the winger does not appear able to play in the NHL. Lack of physical strength and poor use of his size have been knocks on Sprunger since 2004 and not enough progress has been made to make him a viable NHL prospect.

A buddy of mine told me he is hearing some Heatley and the Wild rumblings.

So we were talking as to what it would take. As an outsider looking in:

Heatley and Jason Smith (maybe a low 4 or 5th round Pick to take Smith) ($10.1 cap hit)
for

1st in 09, Cuma/Gilles, Kim Johnsson, PMB ($8.9 Hit) maybe a mid pick also.

If not PMB, then who? it will not be koivu or Burns. Could having another Sniper possibly sway Gabby to stay?

The whole Heatley trade to the Wild makes no sense, imo. That does not say Heatley isn't a great goal scorer, or that the Wild can't use him, but we simply don't have enough picks/prospects to be able to benefit from this trade.

Without Cuma, our 1st/2nd/3rd this year, we would have just about 5 prospects that you could name off the top of your head, with 2 maybe being legitimate contributors.

After hearing and reading about Fletcher, I really believe that if anything is moved this week, it is some of our roster players for picks or prospects that Fletcher feels will be able to contend for a spot shortly. I believe he is going to try to build his own core and then look to making a trade that brings in a Heatley once we are considered contenders.

As reported around our local media, it appears that Bouchard/Harding/Boogard/Pouliot are on the table. After watching Fletcher's interview yesterday, I do believe there will be 3-5 moves between now and the end of the draft (probably Friday night).

My personal hope is that one of Glennie/OEL/Kassian is around at 12, we nab him, then we get 1-2 2nd round picks via trade.

At this point, under the cap era, we build from the ground up, with Burns/Koivu/Backstrom/Clutterbuck being the centerpieces. Even though I like some of the other guys, I think anyone is fair game if Fletcher feels there is overpayment...

I definitely remember him being drafted as a D-man and that was odd at the time because he hadn't played defenseman in a couple years but the Wild really liked him size and skating ability and thought he would make a good defenseman. But my memory could be wrong.

With free agency starting tomorrow and the Wild need to add a defenseman or two and with the fans clamoring for more local players and Todd Richards having ties to both the U and to Armstrong High School why not go out and sign a defensemen that is possibly the best defensemen at both schools since Todd Richards left and that is Jordan Leopold. I know he has gotten hurt a lot in his past but if he can pass a physical and the Wild are satisfied with him physically I think we should sign him. He definitely has the talent to play in the NHL and I think it would be good for both sides to bring him in cause right now as the roster is set he wouldn't be counted on to be a top 4 guy (Burns, Schultz, Johnsson and Zidlicky) so if he stays healthy we get great depth and if he hits more injuries we can take the hit. Anyone else, yay or nay on Leopold?

He's worn the "A" a lot longer than he wore the "C". The only time he has ever Captained the team was March-April in 2007 IIRC.
