Mikhail Stefanovich

SC74 has been giving us game-by-game updates about him in the Leafs prospects thread, but I wanted to know the opinions of other QMJHL fans as well. How has Stefanovich been playing in the current season? Is he one of the top goal scorers in the league in your mind? Who would he best compare to in NHL playing style? What are his best assets and flaws? What do you think about his career potential? Thanks!

I saw him play in Cape Breton a week ago , and wasnt impressed at all .

I saw a very lazy player who wouldnt go into the corners , only skated when he had to and always wanted the puck on his stick . I can recall one play where he wanted the puck and he didnt get it , and the eagles iced the puck . He slammed his stick off the boards and started yapping at his own player ( Breault ) i think it was . He may be a good player but his attitude didnt impress me at all.

I too was at that game.I get to a few Q games each year.I watched him close and saw he has very good skills. He gets open, is very big and a good skater .How anyone can judge him on one game though is beyond me.afterall, its safe to say beens as though Quebec lost that game 6-1 but rebounded to sweep last 3 of that Atlantic road swing says they had stiff legs getting off the bus.Did u see him bury the goals vs Cape in Quebec? He had 2.

I agree with cantwell I saw him in Sydney nova scotia as well he didnt play good at all but nether did his team. The other euro on the team had a assists and thats all. He is a real strong player he is a big guy and is very mobile. We all know what fire power this guy has but its not worth anything without work ethic. In Cape Breton it seemed like he gave up on himself but Quebec ended up having a good road trip he had 1 goal and 1 assist and finished minus1 but the team did good going 3-1 with 1 shutout against a strong Moncton team But you have to look at the team statistics the scoring is spread out the leader going into cape breton only had 46 points. After 4 games only had 48 and it is kelsey tessier

Maybe Stefanovich didn't play a very good game in Cape Breton but overall in the last month he's been very impressive. And Breault is lazy sometimes too, maybe Stefanovich was frustrated against him.

Interesting to read some of your thoughts on him. But do you guys expect he will be back in the QMJHL next season or on his way to the AHL (if god lets then the NHL) next season?

Not a chance he's going back in the Q as a 20 imo. Way good enough to go to the next level, at least AHL. And depending on the Leafs' rosters and injuries next season I believe he'll have a chance to play some games in the NHL also.

Yeah, I'm living in a sea of old Nords fans, that sucks. Most of them are enjoying themselves right now...

Didn't get to see him this season but I went to a few Remparts games last year. Great shot, nice wheels but poor work ethic.

The poor work ethic is absent since November 2008.

He's got some work to do still. In the two games I saw him, I have notes about him still shying away from contact at times and having trouble getting passes through and to the intended player (over shooting, missing, etc), which I found a little odd. Obviously, the same story with most junior players about continuing to get stronger and quicker and take care of business in their own end.

He's got this long skating stride that allows him to get across the ice quite effortlessly, but he doesn't have an explosive acceleration that would really benefit his style. Especially where he doesn't always seem to care for the rough stuff, if he had the ability to turn and burn by his man with a quick first step, he'd be a real threat.

Stefanovich has a frame that you can easily project to be NHL quality. I was surprised to see how much stronger he appeared this year compared to the last. I know last year, it seemed like he fatigued a bit as the year went on, but he seems to much better at picking his spots and making the most of his opportunities. You'd like to see him just dominate every time he steps on the ice, but I don't know if that's really his game.

I think he has NHL potential for sure. In Stefanovich's case, that means on a scoring line.

I don't read what other fans said about him in this post, so what I'm gonna tell to you is my opinion :

Mikhail Stefanovich (this name is just sound like SOB ^^) have a lot of talent, that sure. But, when he know that his team is going to lose the game or if he don't want to play, he will not play as well as he can. He have the talent to score 100 points in a season, but he dosen't have the motivation, I think. For exemple, in the serie over Gatineau last year, he was invisible! When you saw a guy like Claude Giroux fought for each centimeters played on the same ice of Stefanovich, you can understand what I say very well.

He have the talent, it's sure! The heart... he still have to proove it.

Well thanks for the comments QMJHL fans ......

If there is anything more to know about Stefanovich's game and how it will translate to the AHL or even the NHL it would be much appreciated

i'd compare him to nik Andropov or Nik Zherdev. He's very talented but consistancy is an issue. He showed great improvement this past season in terms of consistancy.

NHL Projection: Top 6 Forward
