"He was going to be a minimum salary player who would come back to Calgary where his family is -- it would've been perfect," confirmed Sutter when asked about the 38-year-old.
Gelinas, who recently returned to Calgary after spending the latter half of the season with Bern in the Swiss A League, confirmed he too was excited about the possibility. However, Gelinas said Bern wouldn't let him out of his contract.
Sutter insists there was more to it than that. Either way, it never materialized
Very interesting article today. Huge fan of Gelinas, but I'm not sure what kind of impact he would have had. I definetly wouldn't have minded it though. He was huge in our cup run and his leadership would be his biggest asset.
He scored all three series winning goals and the should of been fourth series winning goal.... pretty high impact but that was years ago... not sure where he would fit into the team if he came back though.
I am not so fast to throw Gelinas under the bus. Maybe not as a player but I wonder if he might be able to play a role within the organization. He just seems like a solid person and I liked the way he played the game, with heart and dedication. I would dig to see a guy like him worked into a coaching role or something along those lines.
