Washington fans are classy

I remember watching the game in 2006 when Buffalo knocked Philadelphia out of the playoffs.

The score was 6-1 after the second period; when the 3rd period started, you could have fired a gun in the Philadelphia stands without hitting anyone...

Watching the game tonight almost brought a tear to my eye; the Washington arena almost full at the end of the game - and your fans were standing cheering on their team.

I am sure I was not the only one who noticed - your fans are impressive......

Yeah, man
hearing the go Caps go at the end when the buzzer went was great.

It was sad but congrats on a great season.

That was classy. I was impressed with that and glad that Caps fans dealt with the loss that way, especially given the circumstances

The game was basically over in the 2nd period, so Caps fans were prepared for the loss. Overtime losses are harder to take, because they the hit you in an instant.

It was easier since it was over so early... I kinda wanted to leave early, but I'm glad I stayed, the crowd impressed me big time at the end there. The game sucked, but the season didn't, and I'm glad people were able to keep that in perspective somewhat and send them off.

Why troll the thread.....

Washington made it to game 7 of the 2nd round (which is very good) - and got blown out...

The fans did not focus on this specific game results - they recognized & showed appreciation for the exciting firebrand hockey that Washington brought during the season & throughout the playoffs.

This is not a topic thread about any team including Washington. Rather, it is to honor the Washington fans......

I remember thinking to myself after the 3rd or 4th goal "lets see the fans start filing out now" but they didn't. seriously good for them.

bottom line is we love this team, we know how hard this was for them too. They'll be back next year and will go deep into the playoffs.

Yep. I agree with this completely.

Penguins fans are still trolling me on Facebook, IM and a few other boards I post at. More proof of why I can't stand about 80% of their fanbase.

I was proud of the fans tonight, I was praying they weren't just going to boo and throw stuff. But they were really good.

People on these boards think that they're all just bandwagoners, but if you go to the games and talk to the people, you know that the people love, and care about the team.

That was definitely something refreshing to see. After watching the Habs fans practically rip their team to shreds and Canucks fans throwing garbage on the ice, it was nice too see fans stay and support the team to the bitter end.

As a fan who was there, and stood and cheered for the final two minutes. I was impressed by my fellow caps fans. It was a good way to send off a team that worked hard all season long and brought us tons of entertainment.

It was great to be a part of. I was just sad it couldn't be the same sort of standing O like against the Rangers.

I was very proud to be a Caps fan last night. I'm glad that most are able to look past another playoff loss to Pittsburgh and realize what a great season it was.

And as for the Pens, the slate was wiped clean before the series IMO. We're in the Ovechkin era, and whatever happened before doesn't matter. When we meet them again we WILL win. Maybe that's why I'm so strangely at peace today.

Losing that way made it much easier to deal with than, say, Crosby scoring on a PP in overtime. That would have been devastating.

Watching on TV and hearing the crowd late into the 3rd when it was over an hour or 2 before was great. Thanks fellow caps fans. I was worried before this game that if we lost to the Pens again that we'd go right back to the late 90s again in terms of fan support, confidence and respect. This is undoubtedly not the case. This is a new caps team and we've only scratched the surface.

LGC!

Horn guy did a good job of getting the crowd into it with less than 5 minutes left. He deserves a pat on the back.

I have to admit that I did leave when it was 5-0, but I had a seven year old who had fallen asleep in the first period and had school today. Otherwise I would have stayed to the end. My wife was afraid it would get ugly at the end. I'm glad it was a positive ending.

A ton of idiocy on the official boards about this. It's no wonder I don't post there.

To the crowd's credit, they spontaneously got into it before Smiley started up the horn.

I wouldn't have trolled you so much after the game if you hadn't sent me pictures of Penguins golf balls, golf clubs and the like AND if you hadn't trolled me so hard after the Game 6 loss.

That said, congratulations on a great season, Caps. You played hard this series and it's a shame it couldn't have lasted longer. We'll definitely be seeing each other next year, and hopefully the games won't disappoint. They certainly haven't this year!

Another moment when I almost shed a few tears. They would have been the tears of an approving parent though. Extremely touching.
