Wow, they didn't waste any time. I'm really glad that he's going to be hanging around. You see the value his kind of player has to the team come playoff time. I'll be interested to see what kind of money/terms he gets based on his great work ethic but slightly disappointing numbers.
I may be mistaken, but isnt there a provision in the new CBA where you can take a player to reverse arbitration, or ask for less than they are currently making?
Yes you can take players to arbitration but I believe their salaries can only be reduced by a set amount.
As for anyone saying Bernier couldn't sign below a certain amount, that is wrong. Bernier could've signed a 10 year deal at the league minimum if he wanted, there's is nothing in the CBA to stop him. The Canucks however would have had to offer him a QO and he could chose to sign that. Instead they worked out a two year deal, likely at a bit of a compromise. My guess is it's for $2.25M per.
