I'm excited to see Bernier develop... tonnes of tools there and if his skating can improve anywhere near to the level that the Sedins improved over the last 3 seasons and his hands catch up... we'll really have something.

Congrats Steve!

$2m seems fair. Hopefully no one is holding out for top 6 expectations, but he should be a huge part of the 3rd line.

If he can be our leader in hits again and be a solid 3rd line player i'll be happy. Has potential to do more so this signing is good.

For sure.

A guy like Hansen can take his spot in the bottom 6 and provide more speed and tenacity than Pyatt could for a much cheaper price.

Don't be surprised now to see Hansen dealt. There's going to be no room for him on this team sadly. Doesn't exactly have a lot of value though.

Why?
Raymond Wellwood Bernier
Pyatt Johnson Hansen
Hordichuk

IR: Rypien

Who is going to take his spot? He is much more versatile than Rypien and Grabner and cheaper than Pyatt.

Pyatt is too expensive and redundant for the fourth line.

You gotta think that Hodgson is going to make the team, and Wellwood, along with the Sedins are going to be re-signed.

That gives you a full roster right there with Hansen on the sidelines. My educated guess is that they're going to try and acquire another scoring forward which doesn't leave any room for Hansen.

Had trouble with his confidence early in the year and then carved out a nice niche for himself on this team. He hit a lot and hit hard and was rewarded for it. He also figured out how to play in front of the net on the PP.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with a 20 goal 45 point year next season.

And if it is for $2 mil a year Gillis saves a little bit of money.

He'll work on getting his shot up, and you'll see the results next season.

It's a fairly simple adjustment, just needs practice. More pressure on the lower hand when shooting will increase the lift, takes time.

With Hodgson and Grabner probably forcing their way onto the team in training camp (just way too much skill for them not to be there) that probably means the end of Pyatt for sure, and possibly even someone like Raymond could be used in a deal.

Raymond's still cheap and he has proven that he can be an effective bottom six guy killing penalties and stepping up when there are injuries. I'd keep him over Hansen if it comes down to that.

This just solidifies their relationship as BFF's. Now they'll have to rock/paper/scissors over who pay's for the poutine.

The Province is reporting it as $4 million/2 years too.

http://communities.canada.com/thepro...n-bernier.aspx

I think it's safe to say that's what it is.

He's also started throwing his weight around a bunch. I like Raymond, I hope we have a spot for him.

Raymond-Wellwood-Bernier would be a nice third line next year, but alas this means Burrows in the top 6...and I do not like that.

Good news, good deal. That extra $500k is handy.

Nice to get it out of the way early, as well.

Best part is that he remains an RFA at the end of this deal, so should be a Canuck asset for a long time.

You don't think a guy who scored 28 goals is a top 6 forward?

Do you honestly see him repeating that season? If he does, awesome, but I personally don't believe that he will do what he did this year again, next year.

Probably come down to earth and score 15-20 goals.

He's right. If the Canucks have Burrows as a top 6, this team is in trouble. Burrows will be back on the third line next year, I've seen it happen many times before. Hopefully they have the $ to bring in a top winger.

Burrows scored at a 50+ goal clip once put on the Sedin line. He will absolutely be back in the top six next season, it's a no brainer.

Not a chance. In a cap world if you have a complimentary player that can play effectively in your top 6 (or a talented prospect) then you're set. Unless you want to put all your eggs in one basket and have one big first line.
