Talent wise, it would be very tempting for NYI. A lot of proven NHL skill coming NYI's way.
Salary wise (Vanek), not so much.
Likewise, do not understand why in the world Buffalo would gut the heart of its forward core, giving up a 25 year old, two-time 40 goal scorer, and a 26 year old center who has 70-80 points the last two seasons.
That would definitely put Buffalo in contention for the top selection in the Jun 10 draft. I would imagine that Vanek and Roy could garner the number one selection without tossing in the 13th overall.
yeah i would think so as well...maybe 1 and 31 for vanek, roy and 13? i dont see it happening bc it doesnt make sense at all for buffalo, unless they wanted to dump $ which im not aware of, but vanek isnt where id start dumping salary.
isles i think take this deal and run quickly...theyd end up with a 40g 25 yr old, and a very good center in roy plus picks 13 and still 26 in the first...enough to move back into the top 10 if they so wanted.
Why would the Islanders do this? Sure, they get good players, but these players won't turn them into a playoff team. The Islanders need to be patient. Slow and steady wins the race. A trade like this will take them from last to 10th-11th in the conference. Is that really what they need right now? I don't think so. They need to build a team, not get one line.
Myers is not at all like Mezei. Mezei was a smart defensive dman who was physical as hell and could see the ice well. But, his lateral mobility was poor. That issue, along with the injury bug, kept him from every making an impact in the NHl.
Myers, at least by what I've read, is much more mobile and a better puck handler.
